"Well, little Joey, back in 1856 there were only 3 teams in the nation. But Pitt showed them all who was boss. Even though they had a chance of winning the title at something like 33% odds, that didn't hold us back. Quarterback Dietrich von Shaler was an excellent passer and blacksmith. In fact, that's how our glorious village got its name. Pitt played many games in those days, sometimes even playing 4 whole games in one season! All in front of less than 100 people. As time moved forward, more teams were added, and it's easy to think that there were teams better than Pitt. That is very much not the case, as they were all worried about Pitt winning every year so they paid all the Pitt coaches to allow other teams to have a chance to win games. That is still the practice used today. Even Rod Rutherford, the greatest quarterback to ever live, was nice enough to allow other teams to get glory before he himself. Oh yeah and Penn State sucks."

I guess going from 1989 to 2004 (15 years or so between two 8 win seasons is a great thing!)...
Good job Pitt...8 win seasons every 15 years is great!
From 92 to 98 including each of those seasons, Pitt had 23 wins..that is just over 3 per year! Ride PSU, but I don't think this stretch is to that altitude yet

Coach, I recall Pitt having an 8 win season last year as well, and getting a bid to the Continental Tire Bowl. So there's one year between last year and this year's 8 win season, provided, of course, that they beat South Florida.
Goodbuddy, I know you like to think Penn State's schedule is the only thing keeping them from a winning season this year, but open your eyes. The Big East may be weak, but not that weak! Penn State beats Temple and Rutgers, and beats one or two of the rest of the division in upsets. Connecticut is a bit tougher than they are giving credit for, Pittsburgh is a solid team this year, West Virginia's overrated, but could still go 6-5 with Penn State's schedule, Boston College is very good, but inconsistent, and Syracuse would still give Penn State a tough time. The only team PSU could beat on a regular basis this year out of those five might be Syracuse. That doesn't mean that the Big East is a strong conference, but Penn State couldn't win with anybody's schedule, unless maybe they played in the WAC or Sun Belt, and they still wouldn't be able to beat the stronger teams in those conferences. Even most decent C-USA and MAC teams could beat up on Penn State. In other words, Pitt and WVU may not be that good, and may be in a weak conference, but PSU just plain stinks this year. Not dissing them, but stating the cold, hard truth.

I am being completely objective here, I saw 3 Troy games and almost every UNT home game plus the Ark. State game on TV, and I can say that Penn State would definitely beat those two teams. What this means is, PSU needs to join the Sun Belt. haha
