right on. Baseball needs to take a stand on this issue, Get some testing in there. Make it so that it you get busted, dont plan on playing anymore. Hope you guys went to college, or can afford it cause your going to have to find a new job. Thats what he should be saying. Not AL vs NL to get home field advantage. I like the defense battles pitching and good D. where a single here wins the game, not home run after home run. Or if players want to juice up. make the part bigger, None of this 300 ft..maybe to the outfield. Kick it back like, (i believe fords field) was something like 400??maybe, i might be wrong. but still, make the fields bigger, 400 plus yards to lef/right field. make it harder to hit the homers. then crank down on the 'roid useage.

Did you look at the pics of bonds in the early 90s as a pirate. He was a skinny dude..and Now hes huge. Dont tell me that in 15 years age caught up that bad, that he put on that much weight. or was in the weight room that much. honestly. we all knew, just admit it and get it over with.

AE, you are right that people have always been looking for ways to enhance human performance. The difference is that methods that were previously used had little to no effect or were actually deterrents. Steroids have been proven to make person significantly faster/stronger. Plus, they also have negative physical side effects. If we get every kid feeling they have to risk their health to make it to the pros or even college, we're in a for a big mess down the road.

Because the cheats are always 1 or 2 steps ahead of the testers, even out of season random tests are not enough. What really needs to be done is that each athlete must submit to a random blood test several times a year. Some of that blood must be stored for further evaluation. A drug like THG (the clear) was undetecable for several years. Then one day a syringe of the stuff shows up in the USADA office and people are getting caught left and right.

If the athletes know that the steroids they are taking today that are undectable, could be caught down the road, I believe drug use could be halted. Any records or awards an athlete wins must be stripped. There should also be a huge fine thrown in as well (it should be part of every contract they sign). Until that happens, the cheaters will continue to thrive.

MLB needs to institute a drug testing program right now. Then we will really know what effect they have had the past 10 years.

If I want to watch a bunch of artificially built up guys swing I will turn on the WWF.

Clean it up.

Im not saying he was or wasn't on steroids. But your comment abovs is ridiculous. To say someone can't put on a huge amout of weight in 15 years is crazy. Its not that hard to put on weight if you know what your doing. Again my argument is not whether he was or wasn't on. I'm jsut saying 15 years heck 5 years is enough time to put on that kind of mass.....

3 months of lifting in the summer is enough to put on 40 lbs of muscle...

Just how many pounds has he put on? And what are we talking 20 years of time? Some is possible. We are about the same age and I have a lot more body then I did when I was in my 20s. However I am not sporting that kind of muscle, and it for sure didnt come from unnatural additives.

From 86-99 Bonds hit over 45 home runs once ( only 40 or more 3 times). Then since 2000 he's never been less than 45. Show me any other major league athlete who had the prime of his career between 35 and 40. Now, keep in mind that weights have been around a long, long time. Is Bonds the first guy in the history of sports to realize that weights help?

What probably happened is that Bonds saw his numbers declining while guys like McWire and Caminiti (and many others who have get to be proven) having career seasons later in their careers. So he followed the same route.

The other question I have is this....IF you can put on all these pounds in a short period of time in a weight room, won't you lose flexibility, quickness and bat speed?

Well, I don't buy that Bonds didn't know he was using steroids, but anyways. Ancient Enemy, people have been looking for ways to enhance their performance for a long time, and using science for this purpose. But with a scientifically based diet that will help you lose weight along with a 26 week plan of building up to running a marathon means you have to do a lot of work to get better. With the weight room, you have to do a lot of lifting to get stronger. But with steroids, you can get much stronger than another person who's putting in the same amount, or even more work than you are in the weight room. You no longer have to outwork the opponent to win. You just have to have better roids. That's the difference. And the reason the MLB is never going to punish it is because all the fans watch it and love it when a huge hitter hits a home run. The fans love home runs in baseball, and that's why there will never be any real punishment or real testing for steroids so long as the MLB is the only governing body. They're making money off of it, so why should they care?
