WPIAL Rules Aliquippa's Pope Eligible

Defending WPIAL Boys Class (AA) basketball champion Aliquippa received some good news on Wednesday when district officials ruled one of the top sophomore basketball players in the country is eligible to play for the Quips.

The W.P.I.A.L. ruled 6-foot-8 Herb Pope is eligible to play basketball for Aliquippa after he recently transferred from Hopewell.

Pope played his freshman season at Montrose School in Maryland. Several national scouting services have him ranked among the top sophomore's in the country.

Pope, who is now living with his grandmother in Aliquippa, will be available to play Thursday evening when the Quips visit the Blackhawk Cougars.

herb pope is like a man among boys. he is ranked 17th in the nation for sophmores. and while attending a recruiting combine at born 2 run sports complex near grove city outlets, he shattered a backboard within minutes of his first game up there, while attempting a one hand slam on a rebound. simply said he is better then ne 2 players in d5 or d6

blackhawk beat the quips rather handily,(with pope) but don't let that fool you aliquippa always starts slowly as a result of a prolonged football season.i can't wait to see beaver falls ( my alma mater) aliquippa play!

yeah that will be one heck of match up...pope for the quips in the post and beaver falls point guard lance jeter...2 great players
