STATE Football Championships

Post by noname »

In all 4 games it was total blowouts. The AA game today got a little interesting in the 4th qtr Grove pulled within 10 pts but Lansdale preceded to drive 75 yards to halt any thinking of a comback on their next drive. Southern Columbia is huge as in they had guys bigger then the AAA and AAAA schools. I see them keep dominating for years to come. TJ in the AAA game had some studs especially their fullback- linebacker who stood 6"3' 215 pounds and only a Junior. TJ's tailback was only a sophmore so look out for them again next year. The AA game featured size VS speed as Lansdale was very quick the whole way around. If Tyrone would of made it I do believe they would of also had trouble containing the running backs from Lansdale. AAAA game was over at the toin coss as Central Catholic has some beastly kids. In all was boringest State games all the way around as a spectator. Rained alot Friday during the A game but Friday night and Saturday was pretty darn nice for December. I heard again there is going to be a push for 6 classifications and I mean a big push for it. It was talked about few years ago but this time I no it will be hit hard as discussions about it come up soon. In my opinion it might actually happen this time as I no of some groups that are going to Lobby for it and the PIAA might actually see it is a good idea. Something could happen in the next two years. That is the hot rumor going around down at Hershey.

6 Classifications would do a lot for PA football. It would keep more teams engaged in the process and build a lot more fan interest. Here in MI they have 8 which, hte way it is set up, seems to be fair for all. You dont hear a lot of squawking about inequity in school size, you generally get to play against new schools every year, and the further it goes the longer fans keep interested in the outcomes.

It seems like the addition of classifications is getting out of hand in most places. At what point do you cross the line from "fairness in terms of school size" to a watered down system? Maryland, which has less than half the population of PA has 4 classifcations in all sports, and, someone correct me if I'm wrong, 3 more separate divisions for the private schools.

I wouldn't mind seeing 2 more classifications added to PA if they were for small and large private schools, but I can't see that happening.

Why seperate out the private schools? Not all of them are the sports recruiting machine that some are.
