Recruiting secret:
It's not landing the supposed "blue chippers" and "highly rated super-preps" like those LOSERS at PSU do (Losers=A coaching staff who lands all that supposed "talent", then does NOTHING WITH IT---Proof=sub-.500 record in the last 6 seasons), but it's unturning stones and really digging to find unheralded players coming out of hs like Bryant, Fitzgerald, Petitti, Barlow, Goings, and the list goes on.
The mark of a good recruiter isn't whether he lands the supposed "top players" coming out of HS, but how good he EVALUATES TALENT and POTENTIAL and what he does in the coaching department to get the most from that talent...Yeah, kinda like PSU did with Zak Mills.
Isn't that right, JayPa?
All that talent up in Happy Valley and they can't even win 1/2 of their games over the last 60.

Yes that is very true WT about not what they are when they come but how they leave the program! That is coaching. Did better with little or less talent. I am not saying that any team besides like Oklahoma, FSU, Miami, Florida have more talent than anyone else. Just shows other programs are on the rise and some are falling! All I have to say is winning the Big 10 (1) time since 1993 and being a so-called powerhouse is unacceptable!!They even tied for it in 1994. What does that tell you about this program?

Re: PSU adds a 6'2" 3* Receiver to the freshmen class.
Red headed step children don't make their own thread to talk about Pitt or WVU recruits...they jump in on PSU chat and put in their two cents. Think about that...where are all your Pitt and WVU threads. Talk with your friends there about your favorite team instead of being punks in the PSU threads....you two post in all of them almost...and then become the top poster in each of those threads. Paterno still has won about 3 of every 4 games he has ever coached in....EVER.
He can't recruit anymore, blah blah blah...whoops look now!
Maryland WAS terrible until the last 4 years...WVU and Pitt were teams that were always right around .500 or going through decent teams (7 wins) or terrible teams (2-3 wins).
I need to make a different thread about this...but JoePa has had an undefeated season since he hit retirement age. He is 78...if had retired at 60....he would have left right around the time of the 86 national championship...most men are retired by then, but he led a college team to a national championship. Again in 94 he led an undefeated, untied powerhouse of a team...one with one of the best NCAA offenses ever! 99...he had a team ranked #1 in the nation...at OVER 70! At 75ish, the man had a team with a 2000 yard rusher that was within about 3 scores of an undefeated regular season.
Talk about clouded judement....being a fan of one of the OTHER schools in our area just gets you upset. I'll take a few bad years for all the good that we've seen at PSU for about the last 50. Wouldn't you all? Wait...your programs haven't had that type of success over that amount of time. A man has 5 losing seasons in a career and people think he has lost it.... Bad spurts happen everywhere. Thanks for jumping on us while we were down....It will be sweeter getting back into our talks when your programs are continually around .500.
Again...I've felt like you all though. I like the Pirates...I love them no matter how many times they lose...and I love jumping all over the Yankees as you do with PSU. It is sports and being a fan....that is how it is....I know what it is like to root for a second fiddle...Steelers and Nittany Lions have the tradition I love. I'll also watch the Buccos, Penguins, and Knicks...none of which are teams that I've been proud to be a fan of recently. I take stabs at the Lakers, Yankees, and well I don't like hockey well enough to hate anyone there, but you get what I mean. I've been you and you've been me.

Re: PSU adds a 6'2" 3* Receiver to the freshmen class.
PSU KNOWS that their program stinks, but will never admit it. They've been bad for so long and there is little hope in sight.
Blah, Blah, Blah, great recruiting class. Bullspit. If you listen to Mike "Blue and" White from the Post-Gazette, UPS has had a top 5 recruiting class the past 5 years. So why don't they see the results on the field? A) The propoganda machine isn't working like it used to OR B) Their coaches are the absolute worst at developing talent. I think it is 80% B and 20% A.
Simply put, PSU is drowning emotionally. For any of you ex-lifeguards you know that a drowning victim is very dangerous. They don't view you as help, they view you as an island. That is why very few nitwits worry about what is really true. Their problems are internal. They have to externalize everything, try to be good by draging everybody else down to their level. I'm happy to say it doesn't work.
In summary, UPS stinks. They underdevelop talent and will continue to stink.
...........Best of all, their coach is senile and wants to keep it all in the family: (sings) "Oh the days when Miller played, Songs that made the hit parade, Guys like us they had it made ...." So Nitwits your next coach will be JayPa. Oh no, why do you think Tom Bradley was putting out feelers?
Losers.
What Bowl are you in anyway? That's right the same one you were in the past 3 years, at Ten Pin Lanes in Bellefonte.

Quickly:
"How come all those teams you just named (West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Pitt, OSU) all WIN more games than PSU then?"
Once again, Hollywood shows he has limited comprehension skills. I already said those teams win more games than Penn State! It was about recruits! Pitt, Maryland, UVA, and OSU all win MORE Games than WVU, but hey, Rich Rodriquez is the best coach in the country! National champs, guys!!!
"PSU 99 team was the best since 86 what about the 94 team!"
Did I say they were the best? Or did I say ONE OF THE BEST? As for you "recruiting", I don't believe any of it. You have no information, and I continue to call the bluff. You've proven it time and time again.
Also quickly: special note to all high schools looking for a football or basketball coach: Do not forget that AJ Natasi is publicly saying than an 18 year old, who is very gifted, has no chance to play I-A. Remember that as a supporter, and especially as a parent. And think about that whenever you get his application.
I want you WVU and Pitt people to tell me how many times in the past (since PSU joined the Big Ten, we'll be fair with all three) that Pitt or WVU won their conference and had a 10-1, 11-0, even 9-2 season. Every one of those teams is in the same boat. PSU has the upper-hand because of prestige. Pitt didn't even win the Big East this year, and split it FOUR ways in a conference of SEVEN!
Think Paterno is a joke? How'd the Big Ten get instant replay? Every team in the country, every conference, should be using instant replay, because there are refs (especially in the SEC) that take college football way too seriously and actually cheat. Even if they don't outright cheat, how many bad calls were there this season in the SEC? A dozen at least! Also, Williams came to PSU because of JOE PATERNO. Doesn't matter if he's not developed, he's still technically a Lion! How about Paterno getting Mills into an all-star game? Yeah Joe Paterno is a complete joke.

PSU=losers and the times have past them by! Can't wait til they have a change in coaches and then they will say we need some time to change personel etc. West Virginia had a smooth transition with one losing season in their change which is pretty good. Pitt will do the same with their new coach! Stop talking about the past when PSU gave out 130 scholarships and everyone else gave out 30 to 50. Lets talk about nowadays! Keep the losing going losers! Coach and many others are so narrow-minded! I have a team and for great reason, but know of other good players and teams! Letsssssss Gooooooooo Mountaineers!!

Re: PSU adds a 6'2" 3* Receiver to the freshmen class.
AJ,
I definitely did not talk about the days when teams were giving out 130 scholarships. Pay attention. I said since the Lions were in the Big Ten, how has Pitt and WVU (lets even throw in the Cuse since they're close) done in that same time period, in the Big East? Even with the best program in the nation gone from your conference, and also Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Pitt and Syracuse STILL couldn't win enough games to outright win the conference. Do you watch television, or read stuff on the net? People laugh at Pitt and laugh at the Big East. There are very few people (me being one of those) who are saying to keep the BCS bid for a few more years and give LOUISVILLE a chance.
Syracuse is finished either way, whether or not they re-sign Pasqualoni. He's a bum in his second stint, and re-signing him is a joke. If they don't rehire him, expect Syracuse football to be about as good as Temple within 4 years. Chances are, they'll hire some bum from inside the program, and wallow in their own misery while the basketball team finishes strong.
Pittsburgh has a chance to get recruits from Florida and also use Wannstedt's name recognition to get them over the hump that Harris would never have gotten them over. I personally think Dave Wannstedt is a poor decision in the longrun, because this guy has been a loser everywhere he's been a head coach. But hey... there is obviously room for growth in a sad conference like the Big East.
West Virginia has geographical problems, both with campus location and also because there are so many good teams around them. Hollywood says that WVU hasn't lost a beat. That's exactly the point. WVU was a little better than average with Don Nehlen, and is now a little better than average with Rich Rodriquez. Everybody jump on the bandwagon, they went 8-5 and then 8-4 after they get obliterated by Florida State. WVU has a mediocre defense and the offense is forced to rely on an inconsistent quarterback that scrambles around once in awhile and is occasionaly successful at it. The WVU coaching staff is very over-rated as well.
It will be a huge let-down if Louisville can't win the Big East for at least the next 3 seasons with Brohm. Keep in mind that Louisville has good recruiting classes that get better every year. The only team in the Big East that has a shot of contending with Louisville is Pittsburgh.
There's your 3 year forecast.

Coach u were probally still in Huggies whenver psu won the national title in 1986, but wait they were undeafeated in 1999 should have won the national title blah blah blah kerry collins, Kijana, bottom line dont play kent and ackron non conference and that will not happen.
AE
Maybe you should apply to be a college coach since you have vast knowledge of football. Im sure WVU could learn alot from you since they are over rated. Gimme a break Rick Trickett and Kirlavich has forgot more football than you will ever know. Trickett was at Auburn and LSU before coming back to WVU but those are terrible schools i guess.
Bottom Line WVU and PSU are going in two different directions PSU is on a steady decline while WVU is on the rise. True we didnt meet our preseason expectations however, i bet JOE PA would have loved to have had an 8 win season and be in FLA for the holidays.

Re: PSU adds a 6'2" 3* Receiver to the freshmen class.
WVU didn't beat any teams with winning records except Syracuse and JMU (not D1). Syracuse was terrible as shown in their bowl game.
Why is PSU on the decline? A few bad years??? They are STILL getting better recruits than Pitt and WVU. WVU is on the rise...Why is that? They had teams that won 7 or 8 games a few times before too. Again, they beat one bowl team this year and lost to the other bowl teams. PSU did alright against terrible teams as well.
Again, I ask...why aren't you in your own threads talking about your own teams? You hate PSU but can't talk about them enough.
What bowl was Pitt in for the late 80s and most of the 90s....the John Hancock Bowl was one of them I remember....they STUNK!
I'd hate it too if PSU was a better program than mine...5 seasons don't make or break a program. Even in the midst of this crap...yep I said CRAP. We have been bad up there for sure...but in the middle of it, they played in the Citrus Bowl...against this year's undefeated Auburn Tigers (they were young and getting good then too). They lost close games to OSU, Michigan, and Iowa (2OT). All 3 losses by less than a TD...close to being a team like OSU was that year.
Say what you want...we'll argue all day and night without changing opinions.
Pitt can't sell out a 60,000 team stadium in a CITY (that often), but PSU sells about 105,000 even when they win 3 or 4 games. WVU has empty seats for a lot of the crappy games too....Go to a crappy game at PSU and you'll still see AT LEAST 95,000 people in the stands. I guess recruits don't like that either...
5 years doesn't make or break a team...In 5 years we've stunk...the 5 before that...94 and 99 would be included. Oh...so would the teams that Joe Nastasi played on...those were the teams that were some of the best in the nation with a total of about 5 losses or so over the entire time from 94 til midway through 99. Football comes and goes in cycles. For about 6 consecutive cycles, Penn State football was consistently winning 9-11 games. Having ONE bad cycle means everything in the world.....
