Basketball tournaments get cranking tonight
The County Seat Tournament at Central Cambria High School opened Sunday night with the Bishop Carroll boys downing Bellwood-Antis and the host Red Devils besting Portage. The consolation is set for 6:30 tonight followed by the championship.
The Windber Rotary Tournament opens this evening with the Bedford boys taking on Bishop McCort at 6:30 followed by Windber versus Forest Hills at 8. The consolation game will be held at 6:30 on Tuesday with the championship to follow.
Another local tournament institution, the Boswell Jaycees Tournament for girls and boys, opens tonight with the North Star girls facing Forest Hills at 5:30 with the Conemaugh Township boys going up against Somerset at 7 and the North Star boys versus Richland in the nightcap.
On Tuesday, the Shanksville-Stonycreek girls will take on Somerset at 5:30 with the boys consolation at 7:15 followed by the boys championship.
The girls wrap up their portion of the tournament on Wednesday with the consolation at 6:30 followed by the championship.
At Harmony High School in Westover, Clearfield County, the Ferndale boys will face United at 5:30 on Wednesday with the host Owls taking on Blacklick Valley at 8:30. That tournament wraps up on Thursday.
Also in boys action, Berlin will face Tyrone at the Blairsville Tournament at 6:30 on Tuesday followed by the Rockwood-Blairsville matchup. The consolation is at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Blairsville High School and championship game is set for the same time at the Blairsville Middle School.
The Salisbury-Elk Lick boys will be at the Paw Paw, W.Va., tournament today and Tuesday while the Northern Cambria boys are at the Williamsburg Boosters Holiday Tournament Tuesday and Wednesday and the Laurel Valley boys will be
at the Elderton Tournament on Tuesday and Thursday.
The Ligonier Valley boys face Brentwood at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the first round of the East Allegheny Tournament with the consolation and championship set for Thursday.
In girls tournaments, the Maple City Holiday Hoop Classic is set for Meyersdale High School today and Tuesday. In the opener, set for 6 p.m., Berlin will face Conemaugh Valley followed by the host Red Raiders taking on Southern Garrett (Md.). The consolation is at 6 p.m. on Tuesday followed by the title game.
The Ligonier Valley girls tournament on Tuesday and Wednesday features four area teams, opening with Laurel Valley taking on Blacklick Valley at 6 p.m. followed by the host Mounties playing Windber. The consolation will be played at 6 on Wednesday followed by the championship.
At United High School, the Lady Lions play host to Claysburg-Kimmel at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday preceded by Penn Cambria playing Homer-Center at 6. The tournament will conclude on Wednesday with the consolation at 6 p.m. followed by the championship.
In other girls tournaments, Central Cambria will play Laurel Highlands at 12:30 this afternoon at the Indiana Holiday Tournament with the consolation and championship set for Tuesday.
Bishop Carroll plays Latrobe at 4:30 p.m. today at the State College Kiwanis Tournament while Bedford is at the Panther Holiday Classic, also today. Both tournaments wrap up on Tuesday.
The Westmont girls will play host Wyomissing in the District 3 tournament at 3:30 today and that tournament wraps up on Tuesday.
The Richland girls will face Derry at 8 tonight at the Blairsville Tournament. That tournament ends on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., with the consolation at the Blairsville High School and the championship at the middle school.
Ferndale and Portage are at the Harmony Tournament Wednesday and Thursday while Cambria Heights and Chestnut Ridge are at the Williamsburg Tournament on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Johnstown girls are at the Penns Manor Tournament on Wednesday and Thursday while the Northern Cambria girls take on Moniteau at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Lady Blue Devil Classic in Bellwood, playing in either the consolation or the title tilt on Wednesday.
Bishop McCort plays Bishop Guilfoyle at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Great Chevy Shootout at Bishop Guilfoyle with that wrapping up Thursday at the Altoona Fieldhouse.
Turkeyfoot Valley hosts a holiday tournament today and Tuesday featuring Hyndman, Salisbury-Elk Lick and Northern Garrett (Md.).
