That's not the question here. It's whether or not the mid-majors have made a statement because Utah beat Pitt. I say one game doesn't make all the mid-majors look good. By thinking this way, a couple of years ago when the Miami Hurricanes won the national championship, it meant that the Big East was the best conference, right? By the way, Pitt should have been there. IT WAS THE RULE, and you can't change rules in the middle of the game.

I've very interested to see how the Pitt fans respond to Moldo's "one game doesn't declare anything" theory. Let's think back about the Pitt responses when they beat Penn State a few years back.

The mid-majors made no statement. The MAC was being touted as being better than the NFL last season, and look what happened this year. And who called it? Theeeeeee Ancienttttt Empireeeeeee. The MAC was back to its old tricks again in 2004, Lousiville is leaving a mid major conference, and Utah was history as soon as Whittingham signed on the line instead of someone with name recognition.

There are good teams in those conferences every year, regardless. BYU won a national championship, so did Louisville. And also, anymore, where do you think conferences go to get new members when a current member disappears? Last year the MAC, this year Utah. Next year it'll be some other team.

I think it is a statement to how weak the Big East is the best team in the Big East got a total butt kickin' by a Mountain West team. For this reason i feel that the BCS should take the top 8 teams no matter what conference they are from tell the conferences that if you can not have a team in the top 8 then your out of luck why is it far for teams that go undefeated or have 1 or 2 losses to go a minor bowl and get not that much money while a team that is ranked 20th in the BCS Standings get in.

If the BCS must exist (and it apparently will for some time), I wish they would just concern themselves with the top 2. After that it's open season on who the bowls invite. It would create more interesting match ups and more equitable games.

Is it fair then that 8-8 teams from the NFC make the playoffs when AFC teams with better records stay home? Rules are rules. Pitt satisfied ONE of the BCS rules. What else can you say. You can't change horses in mid-stream. Until they are changed, these are the rules for now.

Exactly. And also, Utah isn't Colorado State or Air Force. Utah had one of the best coaches in the country and good recruiting classes on top of it. They were easily the 2nd place team in the Pac-10 or Big 12 if they were in a bigger conference. Now, Utah will suffer because Meyer left, and because of who they hired in his place. Just don't be under the impression that an 11-0 team is bad because they play in the Mountain West. They crushed A&M BAD, and destroyed a team who made it to a BCS game because they won their conference. Not too shabby!

playoffs are a bad idea. the bcs gave us a national champ, what more do we want? playoffs are a bad idea but we will have them eventually. our appetites will overpwer what is right.
