Portage slumping in North
Portage started the year off strong, but as of late there 6'6'' top scorer Randy Spaid is getting into foul trouble? Earlier this week the Mustangs lost at Ferndale, with Spaid getting the J-Town transfers following him around all night. In last nights game against Conemaugh Valley, Spaid had to sit out the first half, with 3 fouls in the first quarter. Portage relies on Spaid to keep them in games. When Spaid re-entered, Mustangs keep on chipping at the lead. But the halftime score killed the slumping Mustangs. It was 50-22 at half. At the end of the third quarter the score was CV 58 P 48. It got closer and closer, Brian Adams keep pouring in points. He finished with 18 points, next too CV's newest 1,000 point scorer Josh Lupek, who had 32 points.
Blue Jay guards Dan Pollino, and Evan Tompson should get alot of credit, they feed him the ball for lay-up after lay-up to Lupek. The lead was down too 62-56 when Spaid hit a three point play. Then a quick 3 by Spaid brought them even closer. Jumpers by various Mustang guards got the game to an exciting finish, 67 - 64 CV.

It was a good game, and I think the Mustangs seen what its like playing a top team...It's not easy. The Mustangs got everyones head turned when they started out 6-1. But as of late, since there starting to play North teams, it'll only get harder.
Re: Portage slumping in North
I must say that the mustangs arressive attack at CVs conservative offense helped them get back into the game that looked over in the opening minutes of the 2nd qtr. Portage played tough and it wasnt just spaid who kept Mustangs in the game, each player kept hitting vital shots and making key plays on defense when CV slowed down their offense. It was a team effort but if portage wants to make any kind of noise in the North they will need more of it

The Mustangs got back on track, with a 72-52 win over Blacklick Valley Friday night. Spaid led all scorers with 27 points.
