playoffs would be great for football, i for one would be pumped up to watch a tournament

Auburn has a better secondary than Oklahoma, and I think that Auburn should still have a claim to the national title. What is this about students missing classtime for a playoffs? If that were the case, why does even Division III have playoffs? The thing is, college divisions that aren't big on athletics, aren't likely to rake in lots of dough from football games, and are very unlikely to produce an NFL star, have playoffs, while the Division I teams that produce NFL stars, rake in lots of money, and base much of their prestige on how well their athletes do in various sports, don't have a football playoff. So it's a whole load of bull about missing classes. It's about money.

My suggestion for Division I playoffs would be a 16 team field, rated by the BCS computers and the Coaches Poll. Number 1 would play 16 and so on, just as though it were a bracket of March Madness. The rest of the teams not in the playoffs could hold a December game with anybody of their choice. If Central Florida and East Carolina decide to see who the worst team in the country is, they could. If Wake Forest thinks they could win a mid major conference, perhaps they could play the MAC champion. If Fresno State wanted to play UCLA just to get the fan base fired up, hey, why not? Any other of the 101 teams not in the playoffs could play any other of the 101 teams. The other 16 get to play for the national title. That would keep revenue for some of the schools and open up the playing field, as well as giving more teams a fair shot at the national title.

come on...you cant justify one bad college sports habit with another. its sad when students who have absolutly no business stepping foot on a college campus are easily accepted because their athletic talent. when asking for a playoff system to make ncaa DI football better to watch...or more appealing to the fans you are completely ignoring the fact that every guy who steps onto the football field should be taking his academic career more seriously than his football career, and 90% of the time that is not the case. if everyone wants a playoff system, why dont we just make a new nfl, like mlb has the minor league system, then these guys can develop their talent without taking great classroom opportunities away from real students who actually want an education.

While academics is definatly the reasons colleges exsist, you cant blame the players who come in to college just to get drafted.

Some people make millions from their studies, and some people make millions from their athletic talent.. And when it comes to the university, both bring in millions to univeristys, the former for research, etc and the latter for facilities.

The 15 mill brought in by BCS games is definatly not all going back into the football programs, so all students can benifit.

As for this whole playoff fiasco and everyone's complaint about Auburn should have been in, this is the best thing that could have happend to college football. We had a split title last year, the Nebraska ordeal where they didnt even win their conference and lost to Miami by 98 points, a very undermatched Virginia Tech team get wholloped by FSU, the list goes on..

The trend WILL continue, and while it's a shame for the teams it hurts, it's what has to happen for a real change to be made

debiceps...by saying that athletics bring in "millions for facilities" i hope you mean they bring in millions for ATHLETIC facilities.

I dunno how they do things at Juniata, but being in all those BCS games sure didn't slight the University of Miami's OVERALL facilities. The whole school is brand new.

The BCS money may go to athletics, but the advtantages to a school with a top football or basketball team goes beyond athletics. The number of applicants increases as does the number and the amount of alumni donations. Everyone loves a winner.
