Re: Ridge v. Bedford
You guys are all missing something- that's where these kids always sit. Like Freddy C said, from a volleyball match to a girls basketball game, that is a section mainly used by Bedford students. I'm not condoning their actions or defending them, I wasn't sitting with them and don't know what actually happened, it's just that they got in the gym at 5:30 intent on getting their normal spot and they did just that. It's crazy to think that the administration should have made these kids move.
Lion-line, thanks for the words of encouragement. Actually, despite what you may think, the Stampede isn't made up of actual "losers". Many of the kids play other sports and just use the Stampede as an outlet to support their friends. In fact, during football season the Stampede is led by a guy who's a letterman in four sports and maintains a 4.00 GPA- big loser, huh? (I'll admit, though, that some people do enjoy getting rowdy and often get out of hand.)

Re: Ridge v. Bedford
You know we had this same discussion 2 years ago after the wrestiling match in Bedford. The point of all of this is Ridge and Bedford have many fans and usually most are related in one way or another. Ridge fans like to sit together to show unity and school spirit. Now we have nothing against the STAMPEDE being at the match, but having them right in the middle of the Ridge fans is just asking for trouble. Ridge and Bedford wreslting has a long standing rivalry and we all knew that the gym was going to be packed and that is why there was a video feed into the auditorium. Now during all of the other athletic events it is probably harmless to let the student body sit in the middle of the "visiting fans", but not during such a heated contest of cross county rivals. All the Ridge fans are asking is that the Athletic Directors in at Bedford be a little bit more understanding and ask the STAMPEDE to sit on the other side and beat their drums with whatever they want to during the next Bedford/Ridge wrestling match.

I see where you're coming from and understand your complaints, but they had every right sit where they were sitting. Like I said, they're not really sitting in amongst visiting fans on normal occasions. That is where they, along with countless other Bedford students, normally sit.

Re: Ridge v. Bedford
As far back as I can remember, Bedford students always sat on the right as you entered the back of the gym. Isn't that where the 'stampede' sat at the last Bedford-Ridge match? Maybe tradition has changed in the last year or two.
Re: Ridge v. Bedford
Exactly, and a good amount of the kids in the Stampede were there before any of the Ridge parents were. The parents have no reason to complain, they were there first, they're there all the time, that's how it's going to be even for this match. They were in no way in the wrong with this. And to complain about the drumming? Seriously now, welcome to the wonderful world of sports.

This is really sad!!! We had a great match between 2 fine teams last night. Jr. High and Varsity both came down to the final few weights. I saw great sportsmanship on both sides by both teams. We are more worried about placing blame on some kid being rude or some adult being a jerk. Talk wrestling and squash the rest of this crap.
Now, once again south-paw I agree with you to a certain extent. But obviously you were watching the match from behind your blue and gold glasses. You are right some kids shut it down to keep it close. But it was happening on both sides of the mat. They were doing what was needed to win for the TEAM. Its part of wrestling. Coach Clark like coach Creps I am sure let their teams know the importance of not getting pinned or giving up bonus points. Looks like we will have years of this to come if the Jr. High match is any indication. I can't wait.

I read the Altoona paper and they said something like 1300 fans for a wrestling match and that was just JR high. Great writeup for local wrestling.
I will say my last piece(I hope) about the "stampede" I think it is OK for them to sit on the visitors side for most events because like at Bball and Vball games there may be only 100-200 people so it doesn't matter where they sit at those events. I was behind them and they were rude and mayby the adult should have kept his cool but they distracted me from being able to watch the match. There were times I couldn't see around the signs. It was set up by Mr Windows intentionally because they were there before we even got in. I agree that CR Admin would not have allowed it to happen.
But it does help keep the rivalry going doesn't it? LOL
