Once again I pose the eternal question: is it better to be perceived as having a bad year, and having a bad year, or being touted as national contenders and falling flat on your face?
And as for Pitt, I am one of the very few people who gave Pitt credit in 2004, a year in which they got a BCS bid. What became of that accomplishment? The exact same thing that happened the past couple years with Pitt football: Not a dang thing. How about Pitt's basketball team? How many years now has Pitt been a supposed national contender? Sure, they beat UCONN and whoever else, but lose to Georgetown and Bucknell. Hey, gotta play through some lesser teams in the tourney before you can play the big boys. Better watch out. I hear Rider is 2-7649 and will win the NEC.

That's the problem with perception. That's all it is until you play the games. Point is: Pitt is winning in football and basketball, and are being rewarded in the post-season for their efforts.

Besides being an alumnist, Moldo, how much money do you get from the University of Pittsburgh for spinning everything so it looks good? Don't sugar coat it: You were in a 4 way tie in a conference of 7, WVU and Syracuse both got banged up in those bowl games, and you yourself put up the worst performance of any team in a bowl game, not just a BCS bowl. I'm not just saying that because of the score, I'm talking coaching and how the game was handled. Pitt has a new coach now, is getting guys back that were injured, and your quarterback is going to be the best 1-A quarterback that has ever played at a PA university. Pitt has potential to take advantage of the fact that the Big East, at present, has a BCS bid and is a very bad conference. Even your savior Louisville was listed as one of the top 4-5 biggest recruiting flops. Time will tell.
And as for basketball: I'll buy the Dixon-Pitt hoopla when you actually stop falling on your face.
