Southern Fulton clinches Sideling Hill League Title
Win over Everett delivers league title for So. Fulton
WARFORDSBURG — Southern Fulton clinched its second straight Sideling Hill League boys basketball title the same way it's won all season — balanced scoring and good defense.
P.J. Hixon, Chris Krause and Arik Mills all scored 10 points and Jim Barlow added nine in the Indians' 55-39 win over Everett, which managed just 14 first-half points, including three points in the second quarter.
Southern Fulton (17-6, 12-3 SHL) has a two-game lead over Chestnut Ridge and Everett with just one league game to go, Friday at Forbes Road.
"I thought in the first half we played well offensively and defensively," Indian coach Kent Hendershot said. "We moved the ball well against their defense to get the ball inside and we shot the ball well outside. Defensively, we did a nice job of forcing them into tough shots. We set the tone in the first half."
For Southern Fulton, Jay Ifert added seven points and 10 rebounds and Brock Flowers seven assists to help the Indians shoot 55.3% (21 of 38) for the game. The Indians have now won three straight games after a rocky January.
Hendershot said, "Absolutely, we are happy about the title. This makes it two years in a row, but before that we hadn't won it for a while. I'm very pleased how we have played recently. We are feeling good about ourselves and have gotten the ball rolling in the right direction."
