EagleAlum Great Post.
Jozey: I have read enough of your posts over the years to know better then to think that you would be in favor any team who is not the best making the playoffs. This was the weakest team that BC has had in years. They struggled throughout the year in the LHAC, yet when it came to playoffs, they proved they were one of the top dawgs. Portage is not "being punished" for sitting at home in week 10, you even said it, a 6 win BC team would beat a 7 win Portage team, so why doesn't the best team make the playoffs?
So explain to me again how it would be better for a weaker team to make playoffs over them? Again as EagleAlum said, alot of teams in the LHAC's JV's could beat 80% of the teams in the Westpac, Just as I'm sure they are some larger schools in the WPIAL's JV that could whip on some LHAC Varsity teams.
And how is "being thrown out", and "not being asked back" different? BC was left without a conference, why, because they were winning the Appalacian Conference every year. "Not being asked back" is just a politically correct statement. Just like when a student answers a question wrong in class the teacher says...does anyone else have any ideas, instead of no your wrong you dumb smuck.
Personally, I don't care what the system is as long as the best teams are there in the end. The current system works, why change it?

Re: District # 6 going through changes...
Well, you guys have me pegged. I am torn with the adjustment of the current points system. I didn't realize I was laying it on so thick that you picked up on it that quickly.
On one hand, I am completely opposed to the change because it could be detrimental to Central Cambria in qualifying - not to mention it punishes those teams who play tougher competition, i.e. Bishop Carroll, B-A. Although I support CC to the death and dislike BC because they are my backyard rival, I do admire the Huskies because they play teams in a higher classification. Regardless of where fans feel BC belongs (classification-wise), they are "A" (enrollment-wise). Complain about it if you like, it won't change a thing. Teams like BC and B-A should be at the D6 Title game every year. They both play tough schedules and by the time they hit the playoffs, they are completely battle tested. I can't say I dislike them for going after the big guns in the regular season. If anything, it makes me respect them.
On the other side of this, I'm trying to look out for my current school and situation. As an AD at an "A" school, I welcome the opportunity to make the playoffs with a 7-win season. However, I am right there with you guys in terms of getting blasted come playoff time. I hate the idea of 16 teams making it just to say, "hey, we made the playoffs." In a 50+ point loss, the kids won't remember making the playoffs - they'll remember getting embarassed. Simply making the playoffs seems to be the direction many "A" schools are headed at this point. I can understand what making the playoffs can do for a program, but I also know what an embarassing loss can bring.
Like I said, I see both sides of the argument here. I still believe a team deserves to make the playoffs if they win 7 games, regardless of what conference they play in or who they've beaten along the way. There's something to be said for a team that can win 7 games. However, I definitely believe the best should qualify, and letting 16 teams battle it out will create a major embarassment for far too many teams.
You guys know me, I have no time for people complaining about things that will not change. I'm a firm believer in Ric Flair when he says, "To be the man, you gotta beat the man." If you want respect, you better beat the Huskies. If you win 7 games, I believe you've earned your shot at trying to do just that.

"The part that cracks me up is all these poor "little" schools huddle together in a conference, get 7 wins against the equivilent of most others JV's, and then they cry to get into the playoffs. "
What a lot of you guys forget is that the area's geography has a big influence on the make-up of the conferences. I hate hearing comparisons between the WestPac and the LH. It was primary geography that resulted in their make-up, not teams wanting to play up to become better or teams hiding from competition. Nobody is huddling anywhere. And to say that a 7-2 team from an "A" conference shouldn't be in the playoffs because they may be beaten badly is ridiculous.
Having gotten that off my chest, I believe that the status-quo is the best system. The BCs need to be given more points because they are playing up. AND the 7-2 teams in an all "A" conference need to be included also. Anyway that can be done will only benefit area football.

Re: District # 6 going through changes...
How do we level the playing field is very easy. BC was aksed not to come back into the new alligned applachian conf because they are an attractable program that can draw from any player in that area and then some. yes BC has dominated dist 6 but I can tell you one thing. You give those teams to any coach in this area, I dont care where he is from, they would also dominate. the coaches at BC are great guys I am not cutting on them you take a coach who knows what is going on they would of dominated with those teams also. Yes you are expected to beat the best teams in the playoffs but it is an unfair way to compete against a school that can attract kids to there school. Opinion guy you might respond back to this I dont no but BC has the ability to ATTRACT I did not say recruit cough cough couch ATTRACt any kid they want to bottom line. I agree with some others a change needs to take place with single A schools but leave AA and AAA the way it is. By the way I think BC should be a AA or AAA school. 55 kids on a team give me a break

Eaglealum: What do you mean by "The bottom line is that the Big 8(now the MAC) and the LHAC have adjusted to the times and the West-Pac and ICC are still in the stone age. "
I don't see it that way at all. The ICC has been progressive for years, constantly going through changes as needed to keep a competitive situation going. The Big 8 (now MAC) appeared stuck in the mud and the schools in that league had scheduling problems as the league couldn't fill their dates. I would say the LHAC has done a good job with their football alignment and schedule as has the WestPac, don't see any differences there but I'm not quite sure what you mean...maybe I"m missing your point.

Re: District # 6 going through changes...
I merely meant that if they split their conference into divisions and didn't allowing teams the room to schedule outside their conference for at least a couple games, so there's no excuses. Yes the Big 8 (MAC) was stuck in the mud as far as scheduling went. They tried to work out arrangements with numerous area conferences with cross-over games to help everyone with their schedules without much success....Which leads to the ICC, they have made some recent changes. They slowly over the years kept making subtle changes, like one team to a different division here, another team there the next year; it was getting to the point where 3 of the teams in the AA division (Penns Valley, Bellwood, and BG) actually anticipated them making a move similar to what the Appalachian conference did with Bishop Carroll. Hence those 3 schools duel citizenship in both the MAC and ICC.

EagleAlum:
Yes, a progressive move by the MAC to add B-A, BG, and PV....Do you know how long the ICC wanted a "scheduling marriage" between the two conferences and the Big 8 resisted? Answer: About 10 years. The ICC saw the advantages of, at least in scheduling, doing that and got so fed up with trying to work with the MAC that a similar proposal with the WestPac in 2001 came within a gnats eyelash of flying. The WestPac was stuck waiting on Rockwood's plight and couldn't commit to it. Finally the Big 8, after becoming the MAC gets this wonderful idea!!!!! The dual membership part was new but the scheduling arrangement with crossovers was pushed several times by the ICC only to have the Big 8 turn up their noses.
