Re: Standings (updated regularly)
Just read an article by Rick Morrissey who is a sports-writer for the Chicago Tribune, covering the Cubs and the White Sox. Now, he may not have ALL the experiences of opinionguy when it comes to baseball, but here's his take on leadership in baseball: "It's hard to define what a leader is in baseball. When a football player says he will run through a wall and wants to know who will follow him, he means it figuratively and literally. Throwing a block for a running back can be like going through a pile of bricks. But in baseball? Working yourself into a competitive froth isn't going to help a teammate hit a curve ball. Baseball is a team sport broken down into individual battles. It's sort of like high school tennis. You play your match, do the best you can, and hope it helps the team total. Sure there's teamwork. But if you're looking for motivation, you better come up with your own. When you're pitching, you're doing it by yourself. Nobody's helping you, nobody's throwing the ball for you. You have to do it yourself. You have to hit by yourself. Motivating a teammate to hit a 95 m p h fastball, that's not going to happen. Neither is motivating a pitcher to hit his spots"....In the same article, Cub pitcher Greg Maddux said, "Usually it's the best team that wins, not the team with two rah rah guys". For what's it's worth.

Just because some is "Rah Rah" doesn't make him a leader.
That quote talks about all physical things. Compare it to football. A leader in football isn't going to make a running back run faster. Or make a qb hit his reciever in stride.
In baseball a leader will get the hit or make the play, helping his pitcher or team out. Just like throwing a block you help your teammate out.
So your leader isn't involved in every play in baseball as in football. They are different games.

And the last thing I must tell you...NEVER QUIT!
