I don't see coaches like Bill Belichek (sp) or Bill Parcells putting up with crap from players. Those are 2 of the most wanted coaches in the NFL. Why do you think Noll would be fired just because he wouldn't put up with cry baby players.
I agree with you on the point of the cry babies. Guys like TO should be blacklisted among the league GM's. Brining someone like that in only hurts the team in the long run. For crying out loud, the guy signed the contract 1 year ago. If he had underperformed his contract, I seriously doubt he would've volunteered to give money back.
None of this changes the fact that we're soon to hear (once again), about Bettis being in the best shape of his career and how they plan to incorporate the tight end into more of the offense. I won't hold my breath on either. I've heard them too many times.
Don't get me wrong, Bettis is a great guy, a Hall of Famer, and all that, but he is soon going to do more harm than good to the team being in the lineup.
On a sidenote, I was at the Steeler Basketball team vs Sheetz in Hollidaysburg last night (last year too). Brett Keisel is an amazing athlete. For a guy that size to move like he does is amazing. He is definitely their best basketball player. It was funny seeing Josh Burr out there though - he made Keisel look small. And James Harrison plays like an animal on the football field - it's no wonder, he's not that big so he has to play big. The guys on the team this year were: Chris Hope, Brett Keisel, Lee Mays, Randle El, Ike Taylor, Josh Burr (all 6'9"), Matt Kranchik (pretty good athlete too), and James Harrison.

I would argue that Bettis helps the Steelers more than he hurts them. He's a great guy, and his teammates still look up to him as a leader, whether he is on or off the field. Also, consider how well he did backing up Duce Staley. Each time he started, he rushed for over 100 yards. I think it was like 5 or 6 games that he started in place of Duce. Also, besides that, he ran for about 75 yards against the Patriots and the Eagles. Duce got worn down as well as the other team's defense, so the Steelers bring in a fresh back and wear them down some more. He still has some gas left in the tank for another year or two. Hopefully it will end with a Super Bowl Ring.

I dont like Bettis, but he did take a big pay cut to stick around, and I appreciate that. It shows honesty in his situation, loyalty to his teammates and fans.
