Re: Congrats Jose Mesa
just last nite on baseball tonite, i heard billy wagner called the best closer in the game today. um...wagner is a fine closer and prolly just as good as anybody but gagne. i dont think you can say he is the best closer in the game when he only has 5 saves.
yet, on the same show, mesa's 300th save was not mentioned until the last minutes of the show. makes me sick.
maybe if the pirates were the favorite team of the producer of that show, they could get some prime play when one of their players reaches a milestone that few other pitchers have. it bothers me that the phillies get so much play on baseball tonite. as soon as larry bowa lost his job, he was hired to be an analyst on that show. john kruk's fat mouth gets in the way of what harold reynolds has to say way to often. the phillies are a terrible franchise that spends money like the mets and the braves but are not on the same level as those teams. their minor league system produces one major league player ever 3-4 years. they havent won crap in like a hundred years. when their chance to win, they put the worst pitcher on their team in to close the game. if you cant tell, i dislike the phillies.
some philly fans may come back that the pirates have done just as little and maybe less compared w/ the phillies in recent years. my objective is not a comparison between the pirates and phillies. the pirates really cannot compare favorably to any other team beside maybe the brewers and the expos over the last 10 years. my plight is w/ the way the phillies are promoted on national tv every dang season. they are bad to average every year. they are the king of underachievers.

is there a way to find out who led the league in save opportunities?

Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.

Re: Congrats Jose Mesa
Rivera's 57 save opportunities led the Majors last season while Mesa's 48 put him in 7th, one ahead of Gagne.

Re: Congrats Jose Mesa
speaking of saves, i bet you the Rockies are going to finish a season with more blown saves than wins here before too long.
