Didn't the NCAA just ok the 12 game schedule? Maybe the USC game could be a permanent season opener or ender. The Big East needs ND but you are right about the Big Ten schedule already. ND and PSU had some good battles, and everyone wants to see ND play OSU, Michigan, Iowa, etc. Regardless of their slump, people still watch them, as you said, which is obviously why they have those contracts.

ND has one of the best traditions and it felt like more than a football game going and playing ND! Lots of neat things there! They will do fine and they got a good football coach as well. Turk good luck and I hope you get on the field! Just have to watch all these Penn St. haters on this board but you will be fine and made a fine decision to go to ND!!

I think it is time for Boise State to try to join the Pac 10. They would be better served by competing with those teams, even though they wouldn't have the guns to win the conference for a few years. But playing in a major conference would boost their recruiting, and that would improve their level as play. Right away BSU would be able to compete for third or fourth in the Pac 10, and possibly second if USC or ASU slips.

Notre Dame already has a tough schedule and is a very prestigous program. I don't see them being helped by joining a conference, as they already have rivalries with several of the toughest teams in the nation. I mean, Michigan, USC, and Tennessee are all tough customers, and Pitt and Boston College are not far behind. However, with a conference, they would only have 4 non conference teams, and wouldn't be able to play everybody from year to year since there are more than 4 outside the Big 10. And that doesn't even bring into account ND trying to find a common date with the 4 teams that they can play. They would be better served by not joining a conference. I mean, in all likelihood, going 10-2 with their tough schedule (possibly the toughest in the nation) would ensure a top 8 finish in the BCS rankings.

Mandatory conference championships would eliminate a lot of problems, and make it so every conference needs 12 teams to participate. I don't a dang where you get the extra teams, but get them. I don't even care if the Big Ten tells Lycoming to come play 1-A.

Notice how ASU is starting to get back on track, when their coach is the old Boise guy. Honestly, I think that backup was way better than Walter.

Who says they need 12 teams to have a conference championship though? Just get the two best teams from a conference with less than 12, and have them settle it in a hyped up battle. I don't like the idea of Notre Dame joining a conference, since there is the loss of some tradition there. I think that should stand for something.

But it would make the sport better if each of the six power conferences had 12 teams and a championship. I think the ACC, Big 12, and SEC all have that format. The Big 10 has 11 teams, the Big East has 10 or 11, and the Pac 10 has 10. This would give some of the better mid majors a chance to move in to fill the void. Like Boise State and Fresno State could go to the Pac 10, and maybe some of the better MAC teams (Bowling Green and Miami of Ohio) could join the Big East or Big 10. The problem though, would be that the teams in the other conferences would be awful.
