Bush at Calvin College

Post by once a runner »

As you may hve seen, GW gave the commencement speech at Calvin College in Michigan. Calvin is an evangelical Christian College. This quote from his speech caught my ear.....

As Americans we share an agenda that calls us to action -- a great responsibility to serve and love others, a responsibility that goes back to the greatest commandment. This isn't a Democratic idea. This isn't a Republican idea. This is an American idea.

An American idea? This idea has been around long before there was an America.

Then why don't other countries embrace it?

If it is an American idea, why don't Americans embrace it?

Are you asking about the American's as a government, or individual Americans as individual people?

So the American Government is not its people? I thought that was the idea behind a republic. If the government does not embrace an idea, then the majority of the people do not either.

If 49% of Americans don't embrace it, that is still a minority, but one heck of a lot of people. Are you talking about our government, or random groups of people who do not agreee with our government and act as the minority? Is that more clear?
