Re: 800 runner
1:57.99 is a superb time for a sophomore. That kid ran that quick without even having a team and running entirely on his own. That's incredible.
I know that the frosh PIAA record is held by Shaler Area's Sam Bair. He ran 1:54 and change as a frosh and placed 4th at states in class AAA and won the WPIAL and Baldwin Invitational titles.

Re: 800 runner
Clement made an excellent showing in the 1600m as he ran 4:28 and change to get an 8th place medal.
He really died the last 150m of the 800m and finished 11th.
I believe that Clement ran too hard in Friday's trials, as he ran 1:57 to get into the finals as the #1 seed. He also ran a 1600m trial in 4:26 Friday.
People who have never run a large multiple day meet with trials and finals don't realize how difficult it is to run hard in the trials and then again in the finals, much less in multiple events. Clement is a talented runner who I understand just came out for track his last 2 years in HS.
IMHO, Clement should've chosen just the 1600m or the 800m and concentrated on one event at states. Had he done that, he'd have finished in the top 3-5 in the event of his choice. As it was, he ran out of gas the last lap of the 1600m and the last part of the 800m.

Re: 800 runner
well duece....maybe he shoulda made it a little clearer, he did say "without even having a team and running entirely on his own", cmon now kids
Re: 800 runner
yeah!
so podlesnik got 7th and with his best time would have gotten something like 4th or 5th!
too bad clement is only a senior instead of being a sophmore like podlesnik or a junior cuz i would think he would have gotten a state championship! cuz his junior year i don't even remember seeing him!

Re: 800 runner
Podlesnik ran his best time in the finals of the 800. Clement ran the 400 and 800 last year. Windber put him in the 1600 late in the season. The 1600 he ran in the state finals was probably only his 4th or 5th time in the event.
Re: 800 runner
yup the 1600 m at districts was only his 3rd mile run so states wouls have been his 4th and 5th!
in the 800m though i thought podlesnik ran a 1:57 flat not a 1:57.99 during the regular season!
any fact to that?
