How about the Coach from saint michael blaming Roberts on their loss??? WOW Skoner did not pitch for like a month to rehab his arm, and just pitched 2 days ago... And the coach blamed a AAABA COACH on his loss!! Talk about a coach who has no regards for his kids, and is all about winning for himself... And Reighard supposedly pitched 90+ pitches the day before, and he brought him into to pitch too??? Coach Grammling of Saint Michael, should be ashamed to call his self a coach of young athletes.... If it was not for double rostering, these kids would not even be playing legion you Clown! I know Patton loves Westover when he was able to make it, i am from the patton area, and know there is no way he would be playing legion over AAABA but it is nice to see him show up when he did!!!!!

I was referring to the comment about St. Michael having a pitching edge as long as Skoner and Reighard were OK to pitch with their AAABA team and, lo and behold, there was a problem with Skoner pitching.
Also, your information about the pitching nine innings is incorrect. The pitching rule for the Legion playoffs allows any pitcher to pitch no more than 12 innings in any three-day period and has no rest provisions beyond.

Wow!! Just read Sgt. O'Rourke's post about the Mathews kid pitching 10 innings against Claysburg. Even though the state legion rules let players pitch 12 innings, if the Westmont coach agreed to participate (with other league members) in the 9 inning scenario, shouldn't he have kept his word to the other coaches in the playoffs? After all, wasn't THAT for the sake of the kid pitching? And baller34 griped about Gramling.

all the coaches had a meeting before the playoffs ........ and it was agreed upon that pitches could throw 12 innings in a series in any fashion they saw fit ........... Matthews had a relatively low pitchcount that day .

A fluke? It was a great series between two evenly matched teams. Westmont just happened to come out on top. There was no 9 inning agreement among any of the managers. Where did you hear that one?

baller34 hit the nail on the head. Roberts wasn't at the game to not let the kid pitch. If it weren't for double rosters St. Michael wouldn't have had Reighard or Skoner to even be in that situation. Who made the decision to throw Mehall in relief in the first game in which St. Michael was down 9-0. Did Coach Roberts make that decision too? Westmont hit the ball well and that won them the series. Don't pass the buck Coach Gramling. Coach Roberts might be alot younger than you are but I am pretty sure he has forgotten more about baseball than you will ever know. Even if Coach Roberts would have been there and said he can't pitch I would still agree with his decision, because he unlike yourself would have been looking out for the best intrest of a kid that pitched 2 days ago and who was coming off an arm injury from earlier in the year. I am pretty sure that he knows a little bit about injury prevention/rehab from his experience.

I of course was not at any of the pre-playoff managerial meetings of the participating teams, so do not know word for word what was said. It MAY well be true about the 12 innings per week or whatever, and, I do not know what Mathews' pitch count was- does anyone? I only know, if things happened as I stated previously, why would a coach have ANY kid throw 10 innings in one game? I personally would have more care in not overusing his arm like that. Also, Matt Skoner pitched in Ebensburg on Tuesday night, and was asked to go out on Friday night against Westmont. I have enough fingers that add up to THREE days between outings, not TWO. And, the kid himself wanted to go out there and not let his team down- I'm sure the coach felt that he would not have to throw that many pitches in an inning or two. The main concern among the parents with and around Matt's father seemed to be that it was a matter of insufficient warming up, since you only get a few minutes and pitches to warm up unless the previous pitcher sustains an injury. As for the home bench "showboating", I guess ya hadda be there.
