Ya. Unless you read deeper into the story, no one would realize why. Even the entire first paragraph was generic. Heck if you stopped there, one might even think it was Pitt's fault. When Pitt made the SI article about their players being in trouble, I was BIG news in the sports section. This was kind of pooh-poohed, kind of like "Oh, by the way". Wouldn't want anyone to think he was a victim.
