Cristobal is an excellent candidate and excellent coach, who served on staff at Miami during their great run. Ppl speak very highly of him and he will get a big job soon enough.

I think Cristobal would be a fine coach, I really just never felt Pitt was a good fit. Either sides didn't stand to benefit too much. He would leave soon and we would be looking at another search in less than 4 seasons.

Chryst was a so so hire for me, but he very well can be the right guy. He seems genuine, even took an indirect shot at Fraud Graham, so he's alright. Wisconsin has had some pretty dominant offenses lately, and he's been a good part of it. If he can get the gigantic linemen he had at Wisconsin, he'll do fine.

Looking at what he has to deal with.....

Step 1, Quarterback. Here is what he has...
Tino Sunseri. Sr. We all know what he's capable of, and thats not much. Going for a third offensive scheme in three seasons is kinda hard to deal with.

Trey Anderson. So. He is a little guy, with limited skills. He may bolt, only reason he was here was Todd Dodge and Todd Graham.

Mark Myers. So. Big Pro style QB. I think he will get a good look.

Chad Voytik. Fr. He's undersized and runs 4.5 40. Athletic, smart QB. And seems to be 100% on board with Pitt. Maybe he can start as a freshman.

Running Back seems well stocked for him as well. Ray Graham should be back, Rushel Shell enters the picture and Isaac Bennett has the Wisconsin RB build. The Badgers usually employed multiple backs and they did spread the wealth around.

Receivers are plentiful, Devin Street and Mike Shanahan were built for the pro style offense, they'll improve significantly going back to it.

Tight End, ironically Brock Deccico transferred to Wisconsin from Pitt, and well look at this..... Hubie Graham is back, and he has good hands. They have depth built up from Wanny.


Line is questionable, but these guys were mostly recruited to block in a run first pro style set. Back to what they know......


Defense remains to be seen, depends what scheme they run, but they have linebackers and linemen that can really play. Pitt's defense was going to be a strength next season, even under Fraud.


I think 7-5 and 8-4 is the height for Chryst's first season, anything more would be a major success.

His number 1 goal should be to get the player's trust. And #2 should be to get the fan base's trust. He won't draw crowds until he proves something.

Crimson so an O coordinator scoring a lot of points on Bradley means something how? You realize that means jack when it comes to being a head coach right? You realize more than likely Bradley will not be around next year right? The bottom line is Pitt was turned down by a coach from FIU.

Titan as toxic and as big of a "cesspole" Penn State is right now they will still get a coach who is higher thought of than Paul Chryst was. Did the guy even interview as a head coach for any of the openings this year? Heck even Minnesota and Purdue didnt want him last year.

Kirk, you and I agree on a lot of stuff (or at least understand eachother's thoughts) but I think you are way off base w/ the Chryst bashing and the Cristobal bashing.

Chryst's name has come up in the past 2 seasons, he just wasn't offered jobs. Pitt made EXCELLENT choices in their final 2: Chryst and Cristobal.

Cristobal is a massive, massive Paterno guy who wears a tie to honor Joe. Joe was his idol (if he still is, who knows?) but that's besides the point. This guy took an upstart program and made them decent. Do you realize how hard that is? This guy is going to get a big job soon. I guarantee you that if Golden would have left for Penn State, Cristobal would be on the very short list for the Miami job.

You can't bash the guy bc he's from FIU. Urban Meyer was "just a Bowling Green coach".

TAE...I actually like Cristobal alot and would not be opposed to him being PSU's coach. I think he would have been a home run at Pitt, but I think they were scared he would leave as soon as any position in the south opened up.

As for Chryst, I think it is strange he hasn't been offered a job yet and I think it has something to do with his personality, but after hearing soundbites from his press conference yesterday i thought he sounded pretty genuine and intelligent and not a salesman like the last coach.

We shall see I guess.
