They get 5 minutes or less a night! You guys want a 15 minute sports show every night!! Wait... So do I! That's gotta get done at least weekly. One of our stations should try to do that.

Before they got rid of the BEST sports guy, Tim Rigby, he once told a mutual friend that he was allowed 4 1/2 minutes of air time per show, to edit as he wanted. They can run the same tired **** commercials for 10 or more minutes per 1/2 hr. report though. How many people have actually replaced their windows? I see Kathy Ireland in my dreams and it ain't for increasing the R value of my windows.

Rigby was the best. he may have only had a 4 and half minutes but he always knew what to cover that would be of interest. I know the other guys are doing their best, I just think they dont know what to look for or arent familiar with the local "scene". I also think a 30 minute D6 or LHAC "Sports center"ish show would be a big hit in our area. I want to know what the local kids are doing... and not just football. Along with wrestling ... track, swimming, hockey to name a few sports that could use the exposure...

Hey guys...I felt the need to chime in, more or less defend our work because there's a lot that goes on behind the scenes that not everyone is aware.

First off, if anyone of you saw my posts during football season, you know I'm as open as a book. If there's a complaint, concern, or idea, feel free to email me anytime ([email protected]) or call me at work (814-255-7671). I'm there 3-11:30pm Monday-Friday, and I love to talk. You guys are the lifeblood of this region. We feed off of your passion. It's what makes local sports in this area so great.

I'll put our wrestling coverage this season up against the competition any day of the week. We had more on a weekly and nightly basis than I can remember in recent years. In terms of the Regional Coverage, please consider that the AA meet began at 5pm (awful time considering a 6pm newscast) and we're also going up against six district basketball championships being played that night. That's a lot to cover, with only two of us to do it. Is it fair? Do we wish we had more resources? Of course. But we don't, and we play with the cards we are dealt. We still had more wrestling coverage that night than the competition, which didn't even attend the AA regionals in Johnstown, and didn't even attend the AAA regional finals at Altoona.

Our devotion to local wrestling showed big time in Hershey. If you haven't watched, please check out our coverage from Saturday's finals. We were there through the AAA finals. http://www.wjactv.com/news/sports/high- ... als/nLPBd/

When we don't show highlights of someone or something, it's not meant as a slight. Ninety-nine times out of 100 it's because of timing; we can only stay in one place for so long and then it's onto the next event. Once again, short-staffing problems.

And with regards to Tim, we all know he's a legend in this area. I don't ever expect to replace him. But if I can fill my sportscasts with more basketball, wrestling, hockey, track, etc. than any other local TV station, then I think I'm doing a good job, and I hope you all can watch.

All the best,

Matt

Why do we need 3 or 4 weather reports in a half hour broadcast? Get rid of Radovanic and maybe you could afford a couple more field reporters. You got rid of the wrong guy. And once more, why a report on womens college lacrosse? Just how big IS that in this area.

Saying WJAC should get of Radovonic is Blasphemy!! I love that guy and he is a great anchor. If anybody has ever lived out of the area for a while would appreciate his work and presentation.

As for Maisel. Give the guy a break. Clearly they don't have enough resources; the man is his own cameraman for crying out loud! His Football work is great and i would have to agree that the weekly coverage of wrestling has increased in recent years. Keep up the good work Maisel!!! keep fighting for more resourses and air time! I personally would love to see more sports coverage and less people getting murdered in johnstown.

Good post Matt and it is right on the money.

The idea on the sports show would be pretty great though! With the power of YouTube and all of us on here, we could surely upload video interviews, previews, and more.

I would love to do a weekly 15-minute sports show, but it's not up to me. It's up to my bosses, and I don't know if they'd be interested. If there is enough apparent interest from the outside, that might sway their views. If you would like to see one, contact the station by phone or e-mail. This business is all about providing to the public, and if there's enough of the public who is demanding something, well, it can't hurt the end result. Thanks again, guys.
