Hypothetically? #3
Re: Hypothetically? #3
If BG was given Someset's bracket I'd guess it's possible. But I'm definitely not sure if Somerset is slightly below WA, CV, and TJ. I think they're around the level of West Mifflin.

Billmurray, can't say I agree with that 80/100 assessment, don't think you'll get many on board with that either. Somerset could beat BG but not with ease or anything. The teams are evenly matched, but BG beat them by 24 on Somerset's home field. They don't have much more to prove, they are the better team. Period.
Somerset may be more comparable to Thomas Jefferson actually. Not quite Central Valley or West A, i agree.

More comparable to mid level Belle Vernon or Indiana, maybe a first round wpial win.

Somerset slightly below McDevitt and CV and wood...LOL...i literally spit my drink out. If they were in the WPIAL they would have made a first round exit out of the playoffs. They are not slightly below those teams....they are a complete tier or two behind those teams. For them though...good season.

I trust animus' judgment. He tells it pretty straightforward and he's a wpial guy.
I think it's pretty harsh to say that about Somerset, they ran into an absolute powerhouse team in Wood. Most Wpial AAA teams recently have run into similar fates against McDevitt or Erie Prep.
We'll see next week, but I venture to guess if you take away a guy like Jordan Whitehead from Central Valley, they wouldn't be all that good. He's a ridiculous talent, and he's putting on a special run right now. I still think they enter next week as heavy underdogs to Wood.

I'm not dogging Somerset at all. Just providing an honest opinion. I don't think this will be the last time we be hearing about the Somerset program. Their coach has them in the right direction and likely will be a 3A power for sometime. I'd like to see Somerset take the next step and schedule some tough non-conference games. But this year, if they were a WPIAL program, a one win and done would've been very possible. Even if WA won at Heinz, they would've likely been heading to Hershey as well. You're right that WA got pounded by the likes of ECP the past few season, but this year WA and CV are legit w/ wins over some very good WPIAL Class 4A programsCrimson's Ghost wrote:I trust animus' judgment. As for next week; Wood is a 2-3 TD favorite.

I know you weren't saying anything against Somerset, PAFootballguy was.
They were a dang good football team this year, they ran into a machine. That's all.

Re: Hypothetically? #3
Pafootballguy, you are most likely one of this's guys that say winning the WPiAL is bigger than the PIAA. Somerset would not lose to Indiana by 30 like West Mifflin did. They are far superior to Indiana and Belle Vernon
WPIAL bias, this is why everyone roots against WPIaL

You are smoking some good stuff. BG went into their house and beat them by 24 points....what on earth makes you think that was one of the 20%...makes no sense whatsoever
