Re: LEGION--------St. Michaels vs. Westmont
BTW- I did congratulate Westmont. They can hit from top to bottom, I just feel they will see a higher caliber of pitching at the next level and they are at the end of their road. If my opinion about this offended some of you, that's all it was, my opinion. Can I have that.
Re: LEGION--------St. Michaels vs. Westmont
Sarge, I don't doubt that the kid wanted to go in an help his team. Any kid with a competitive drive would want to do that. Sometimes parents/coaches need to step in for the well being of a kid. I don't know the warmup scenario seeing that I was not there. But if there wasn't enough of a warmup period for a kid coming off of an arm injury earlier in the year that threw 3 days prior to that game, then played in the field the next couple of games his arm didn't really get much of a rest. Arm injuries happen to alot of young pitchers when they are not given proper warmup, rest etc. ask James Mehall about them, ask them about overexerting themselves. Matt Kamalskey from Somerset a decade ago was another one. My post more questioned the manager and what I feel passing the buck to another person that wasn't even in attendence. Why pitch Mehall in game 1 in relief, you were never ahead in that game and trailed 9-0. Had he not been thrown, you could have brought him in relief in game 2 and went with Skoner in game 3. Hindsight is always 20/20 though, but don't pass the buck.

Just a question. Did Mathews from Westmont pitch at all against St. Michael in their 2 game series?

And did Shope play at all in the 2 westmont games? someone told me he hurt his wrist or arm in the ebensburg series
Re: LEGION--------St. Michaels vs. Westmont
he pitched in game 2 and I think played SS, i might be wrong on him playing SS though.
Re: LEGION--------St. Michaels vs. Westmont
business you are correct, he did play shortstop.

I don't know the logic of using Mehall in relief either, but I'm not the coach. I would not have tried to bring in Skoner either, but if you as St. M. Coach want to go to a game 3, you first have to win game 2. You do what every coach has since day 1 and use up all your weapons, and worry about the next game later. Shope played in both games against Westy, but did not do that well. I didn't know about any wrist problem, but that would explain why he had nothing to throw against Westmont. On an aside, was the Westmont coaches also that worried that the game would get away from them, and that's why he brought Mathews in relief? I would also have saved him for the next game, game 3. But then I'm not coaching. And, I can't seem to get an answer as to why Joey Hribar vanished from the Saints over the past few weeks, since the game in Bedford when he was used as a runner. There was another arm to throw through the playoffs, and a lefty to boot. Not the best stuff, but adequate, and one H E L L of a pickoff move. Still, two great games. Lets enjoy the season for what it was.

Quit complaining...the best team doesn't always win......that is the case in the Franklin Co. Legion baseball league....Chambersburg will be advancing to regional play, but certainly ARE NOT the best team in the league...the only reason they won it was because the President put a deadline on the league....Tuesday night...tonight....7-22-08.....Chambersburg played all 18 games and ended up with 21 points 10-7-1 was their record.......There were 2nd place (10-6-0)...... and 3rd place teams still with 2 games remaining due to rainouts...these teams had 20 points and a chance to surge ahead of chambersburg, but the Pres. decided to place a deadline on having a league champion.....doesn't matter if it came from the local president or came down from the state......what a cheesey way to win a title if you ask me........Chambersburg does not have the pitching to win regionally.......but they are the "Champs" I guess......just sad to see a race end like this.....WOW!

Re: LEGION--------St. Michaels vs. Westmont
i dont understnad why westmont's win is considered an upset ........ ? with the full team ....... (mccort boys back from state title ..... and keklak back from injury ....) theyve only lost 2 games all year .,...... they would have easily been contenders for the regular season championship if they had the full line up all year because they lost most games with backup players

Re: "Upset"
Obviously, St. Michael's history has some people calling it an upset, but I agree that looking at this season on its own merit, it shouldn't be. Somerset, Westmont, St. Michael and Claysburg were all very close in talent, imho.
Re: 18-game schedule in Franklin County League
When does that league start that some teams haven't gotten 18 games in? CCLL started Memorial Day weekend, teams had 24 games in by July 9 and then they played three two-game playoff series (so Westmont and St. Michael had played 30 games by July 19).
