I was at mansion park for that portage-mccort game a few years ago.

portage had 95 percent capacity on the visitors. I sat on the mccort side. i'd say it was maybe at 20 percent capacity, but i'd say 1/3 of those were not there for mccort based on what jackets and hats they were wearing.

Can't forget, the big side at Mansion Park can make a nice sized crowd look small, and a bad crowd look worse. It's hard to get a feel. We were in the press box on each side last year, and while I've been to Mansion countless times, it's still hard to tell.

I'm aware of mccort having the big side........everyone that I spoke to sitting around me couldn't believe how small the mccort crowd was. there were groups of portage fans sitting on the home side as well. it's just too bad portage had nothing to cheer about that game.

Crimson the reason I like those smaller schools don't really have a student section is because most of them are suited up, whether in the band, football, cheer leading, or majorette

When i attended Penns manor class sizes were 80 average. Football team was around 30-40 players. Band was near 200. Cheerleaders 20. Student sections are hard to come by in football because nearly every kid is involved in some way. A better sport to look at is basketball, since no bands are used and less players are needed.

Hornets, It was tough for me because I was watching the game not really checking around the crowd, plus I was sitting on that side also. But that one did feel small thinking back on it.



konjo, I graduated McCort with 100 kids even, and it's smaller now. Probably 45 played football, 20 cheerleaders, McCort has a small band but with the majorettes and all that, still probably had 25-30. Still, I know the student section was still better than anyone's. Home regular season games to this day, still have 100+ students dressing up and cheering. It's a single A school. And I don't attend McCort games regularly anymore, but its noticeable when you attend their games to this day, that's basically my point.

BM, BC and BG do not have elementary or junior highs like the public schools so there obviously would be more attendance from Portage / Homer Center.

Wanna see some cool footage? Find NBC vs TM from 1973?? Talk about an absurd crowd for two small schools. After tying in the regular season, these two met again in the playoffs with NB winning in the final seconds. I know Head Roadie was there as a youngster. I think they estimated the crowd at something like 7,000. It seriously showed some loaded sections. I think NB was on the home side and it looks like every section except a single end section on each side is full.

No community fan base either...just alumni/family.

Well there ya go. We graduate 60-70 and have roster sizes in the 50's. To answer the question, I agree Portage/Homer would probably be the biggest draw but I would think BG would have a turnout since it's at their home field.
