Yeah, I don't know how good Johnstown will be this year, but past history shows us that Johnstown is typically better than Hollidaysburg. I think the group of sophomore for Johnstown will help them a good bit. I actually think they have a big 6'4" kid in that group, and the younger Price kid will play. Shaquan Reid is a very good forward, so is Updyke. Both run about 6'2". Both guards are back, only problem is that they are very similar and neither one is a big scorer and that's Brandon and the older Price. Both are more true point guards, so I don't anticipate Johnstown having a great outside shooting team. They will need Reid to having a big scoring year.

Johnstown will emplode this year.
There will be major issues. Hope I'm wrong but at this time I see no reason to think differently. I hope this coaching staff proves me wrong.

Well what exactly is imploding? They only won maybe 12-13 games last year. I think they can do a little better than that.

The problem is everyone looks at Johnstown from the past and expects that to continue. This is not your Paul Litwalk program. This is the winning 12 games a year in the LHAC is good for us program. This is the I dominate smaller schools in the regular season and get blown out in the playoffs Johnstown team. Like it or not things have changed. The fact that we are even talking about Jr High players being a big part of the team this year lets you know how steep the program has fallen. Let me remind you as much as it hurts to say that Jr. High team didn’t even win the LHAC last year Bishop Guilfoyle did. I expect Johnstown to win 13-16 games and then lose in the D6 playoffs and if they make it to states get blown out early. Also on toughness of schedule I believe Johnstown plays in the United Tourny this year, heard that competition will be tough.(sarcasm) Might want to let someone know that tournament might be good for girls but for boys not so much……..

I think it's the Ligonier tournament actually and they get a game with AAAA Shaler out of it, along with the Mt Lebo tournament. I don't know if they are United too, but you only have room for 6 non-conference games and I know they play Altoona. So I'm not sure if they have room to play a third tournament, I could be wrong maybe they aren't in the Mt. Lebanon one but they have been for a few years now I just expected that to continue.

Except I don't think that's the case. Last year was a bad year but it came after a nice run of teams that won a lot of games. Every team has a down year at some point. If Johnstown didn't just come off a stretch of five District Championships, I'd agree with you but 12 wins hasn't been their standard

But I will say this, it took Johnstown a few years to realize that they were wasting their non-conference games until recently. They were going to the UPJ tournament but in recent years they went to the Susquehanna Township and My Lebanon tournament.

Johnstown biggest downfalls lately have been a lack of a post player, and lack of a good schedule. They tried to repair that lately. But maybe if they gave some of their better teams some more competition, it would have helped them.

It’s probably just me and maybe older gentlemen remember Johnstown of past and what is expected. If they played in the WIPIAL in a section with like size schools and competition what they have done would be considered very very good. To rack up wins in a conference were you’re the biggest school is not that much of an accomplishment. To win district titles were your only game is the championship because of lack of schools your size is not that big of an accomplishment especially when you under achieve in the state playoffs. There is a reason why Johnstown is never ranked in the state anymore even after winning 20+ games. I remember a time when Johnstown was well respected state wide in basketball. Now Bishop Carroll, Shade, ConemaughTownship, Bishop McCort, and Shanksville gets more state recognition then the mighty Trojans. I don’t believe the hype and I hold them to a higher standard. To me it would be like St Francis basketball playing in the PSAC and going just above .500 against D2 schools. I’m just not impressed and it’s about time someone says it. I have much more respect and belief in the smaller school in the LHAC.

NL I get what your saying, but I'm more concerned with their football team. At least their basketball team wins their 20 games makes the playoffs wins a game or two in states. It's not what they were decades ago, but it's respectable. The football program going 3-7 in the LHAC is a much bigger problem than the basketball team going 20-2.

Johnstown will have a quality team and I think will make a run at the district title but will make the state bracket and get destroyed. Teams are just simply better than the talent and coaching they have at Johnstown. For the people saying about the Jr. High, they are a very talented bunch and found it hard to believe they did not win the LHAC.

Was Guilfoyle better than Jtown or did they catch them on a bad night?
