Area 2015 Outlook
Re: Area 2015 Outlook
I'm pretty sure that bedford only loses one OL and one Wide Receiver. Those were the only seniors I recognized starting based on if the program was right. Senior FB and WR were lost earlier in the season.TheAnalyst wrote:Bedford will have nearly everyone back. Due to injuries they lost at least two senior starters this season. Right now there may be 3 or 4 seniors playing.
They will lose 1 or 2 lineman next year but a junior who has started since 9th grade will be back next year. He didn't play this year due to injury suffered before the season. One receiver will be gone. I think that's about it.
If they can tighten up on defense they will be very tough next year. They just don't tackle well and give up too many points.
But let's get through this year first...good luck to everyone.

Re: Area 2015 Outlook
Penns Manor has only one senior starter and a lot of talented juniors. They played a solid Bellwood team without several of their starters and only lost by 3. They should be a very solid team next year.

What does Everett and NBC have as far as next year? Is Philipsburg going to draw enough kids to form a team if they keep losing like this?

That's a great question. It'll be interesting to see what happens. I think their junior high team was half decent this year, so some help may be on the way. Something to consider might be co-oping with West Branch, which is also struggling with numbers. The schools co-op for boys soccer (and won back-to-back district titles in 2012-13) so it could be something to keep an eye on

Re: Area 2015 Outlook
It seemed even when Philipsburg was really good 6-7 years ago they only had 30 some kids on the team. Why the low interest?
Re: Area 2015 Outlook
I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that football is second -- or even third -- fiddle to baseball and wrestling. P-O has some great traditions in both of those sports, and I think a lot of kids grow up now want to be like alum Matt Adams (Cardinals first baseman). Interestingly enough, the school has a Pro Bowler in Jon Condo in the NFL, but the sport never really caught on. Even in Condo's years they were very average. They did have some outstanding teams in the mid to late 2000s, but a lot of those guys were baseball/wrestling first athletes, IIRC

PO was very good way back in 70's and 80's.... Remember used to get police escort in and out from Sandy Ridge.
