HR: we should have used the D6 rules and declared a 3 way tie in the vault at 13' so all three went to states! lol....maybe next year!

6`5 was not requested by Way. He came over and said that is what they were going to. 6-6 is the school (and district) record so since they both qualified already, 6-5 wasnt necessary for him. Dont know why they went to it but it really doesnt matter. Great job to both at states.

Went to it because of the 1" rule set by the games committee when 3 or less are left. Both would have had to requested 6'6". My guess is that, erroneously, they were never asked although if Way would have certainly chosen 6'5 and blocked any choice by Ifert to immediately go to 6'6 so that's the way it would have occurred anyway. This is done as I've specified to assure the best people get to states and to "mimic" the state meet where they do this once they are at 8 or less competitors in the PV or HJ.

I could be wrong but i'm pretty sure that they went up by 2 inches at states. There were less than 8 that cleared 6-4 and they went to 6-6. Maybe they asked and i wasn't aware that they did but they never called them all together. I may have lost track too with it being 5 alive.

Your not wrong Jumper22...at least as far as the one HJ event you watched and the PV that was held concurrently with it. For whatever reason (my guess is the move from outdoors to indoors and late start because of moving the equipment) with the two verticals, that they used 2" and 6" throughout for Sat. afternoon only.
In Fridays AA Girls PV they went from 10-0 (with 7 girls remaining) to 10-6 and then with 4 clearing 10-6 went to 10-9 and by 3" for remainder of competition. AA Girls HJ on Friday had 9 girls clearing 5-2, they went to 5-4 only had 2 clear that height at which point they went to 5-5. You'll notice that in the AAA Girls HJ 8+ girls cleared 5-4, only 3 cleared 5-6 and then they moved to 5-7 where all three still cleared. Smith and Gehret cleared 5-8 with Smith winning on misses and Pleasant Valley girl finishing 3rd at 5-7. I don't think I need to go further. Look at previous years results and on occassion you'll see an odd inch in the HJ or 3" or 9" in the PV when they get down to the final few.
They have used 1" and 3" increments for years in the verticals at states. In fact I can't remember when they haven't. This occurs when they get to a certain point (not sure if it is six or less athletes or five or less athletes remaining--we are using 3 as the magic # in D5). And I know, I know...I said "8" or less in a previous post which is wrong. Upon further examination it is 5 or 6. It is only a new concept at our district level and as this years Boys HJ and PV results prove that it guarantees that the best athlete on that day wins.
If we had taken shortcuts and been in a hurry and gone by 2" and 6" Ifert would have won the HJ and Trevor Young would have lost on misses to M. Young in the PV at 13'0 and how stupid would have that looked to go by 6" when 13-3 was the SQS. In one case both still would have gone to states but in the other it made certain that the best vaulter on that day went to states. It also ensured that the best HJ'er on that particular day won the event.
Also, they don't "ask" at states, they just do it at the appropriate time.
The "ask" provision was put in by yours truly so that if the three or less agreed to continue by normal increments they could. This came into play after 3 PV'ers cleared 12-6 and all opted for 13-0. I can't speak for Trevor Young but I can speak for Mike Young and Travis Hoover in that their mentality was that it that they weren't competing against each other but competing against the bar with 13'3" being the "winner" they both wanted. 12-9 meant nothing to those two and is why they opted to go higher despite M.Young leading on misses at that point and Hoover being in third. T.Young, if he was looking at the win would have been smart to go 12-9 since he was behind but perhaps he had the same outlook...13'3 or I don't deserve to go.
Not sure why you are trying to find a loophole in everything I present J22 but if you have an idea that may be better for our athletes in our district I'm all ears.

I'm not trying to find a loophole and i think that Districts was handled well. It worked out the best for everyone. I dont remember questioning why anything was done the way it was at districts other than to know why/how the event was run. I was only going by the competition that i watched at states and i knew that there were less than 8 left and they still went up by two. Might have made differences but maybe not. Maybe it was because possibly there were still 7 left. (I think the top 7 cleared 6-4 and eighth cleared 6-2) I also know that Trevor went into that day to go 13-3 (of course win but that was also his goal) b/c it was SQS and a school record. Again, i never said that wasnt run correctly or that the high jump wasnt nor am i looking for a loophole. Just commenting on posts.
