District V Track and Field

Anyone know who one the District V high jump event and what height did they jump?

Um, ok. Ben Way of Ridge jumped 6-5 and won the event, while Jay Ifert of Southern Fulton cleared 6-4, finishing second and also qualifying for states. Way is seeded about 5th or 6th at the state meet this weekend, and Ifert is seeded about 7th or 8th in that meet.

Hey count, why the 'first year junior' edit? Just wondering. Most high school juniors are um, first year, and hopefully will be moving on to be first year seniors.... Just wondering is all. I figure if Ben Way wasn't passing school, Coach I wouldn't have him doing track.

Not to stir the pot (too much), but why did the high jump official raise the bar two inches every time until 6'4'' and then raise it up 1 inch to 6'5"?? I talked to the Southern Fulton competitor (Jay Ifert) and he requested 6'6" and definately did not verbally agree to 6'5" . . . my understanding of PIAA rules is that it raises 2 inches every time unless the remaining competitors agree to something different . . . at that point in time, Ifert had less scratches than Way . . .

I had thought that both jumpers agreed to 6'5", or else it would have gone to 6-6. Perhaps Way managed to convince Ifert that he (Ifert) would have a better chance at 6-5 than 6-6, who knows? But it would have required Jay Ifert to consent for the bar to move up only one inch. Overall, that was a good play on Ben Way's part, and not such a smooth move on Jay Ifert's part. If it had gone up to 6-6, and neither one cleared, Jay would have won since he cleared 6-4 without scratching, while Way had a scratch at that height.

i think count meant it is his first year in track there flea!
but i thought the bar did go up to 6'6" and they both scratched but since i didn't follow high jump as much as pole vault or the track events i can't exactly say though head roadie should know!!!

I was there and Way and Ifert both agreed to 6'5" and anyhow i think the rules state that once there are only two competitors left than the bar may be raised one inch at a time and the other competitor may not have to compete at the height and may pass to the next 2 inches mark. This was Way's 3rd year in track anyhow and he is a junior. He is seeded 6th in states.
