Pitt looked disinterested today. I think a lazy Sunday, lackluster opponent, and a trip to Hawaii on the horizon didn't help matters.
Tactically, Pitt is still working out different lineups and combinations, and they have added some new defensive assignments that don't look natural to the guys yet.
Personnel wise, Pitt has a very talented roster, but they do lack a big guy. Pitt's best lineup may be when they use three forwards, and keeping the centers on the bench. Pitt received good offensive play from Young, Artis, and Jeter. Newkirk and Robinson played sound basketball, and combined for 15 assists.
Samford hung around making some difficult shots late in the shot clock, and making 8 three pointers, and that's what ultimately kept them around. Pitt held them to 30 something % shooting, it just seems they kept making shots at opportune times to hang around.
I don't think Pitt played very well, and they are capable of playing better. It's hard to pass judgment on this team until they see some real competition. They play the University of Hawaii on Friday, and they play Chaminade in the first game of Maui. Pitt SHOULD BE 4-0 going into a game against ranked San Diego State next Tuesday.
