College Football Playoffs

Ideal scenario might be an 8 team tournament with the 5 Power Conference champions making it along with 3 Wild-cards. I wouldn't want to give leagues like the Sun Belt an auto bid just because those games would most likely be blowouts more often than not.

Yeah you can't give leagues that equal weight in the playoffs. Power 5 would never go for that. 5 conference champions. 1 rep from the other leagues, 2 at-large.

In 2007 (I think) Bosie State was arguably the best team in the country (Beat OK in a bowl). And why do they get auto bids in basketball?

Basketball had 37 at-large bids. Of the 31 automatic bid leagues...About 20 of them never have a chance to be a multiple bid league.


If the NCAA tournament was a 32 team tournament, I can assure you not all 31 leagues would get a bid.

Hard to compare basketball to football.

How about we just have 4 weeks of games and then make a 128 team bracket for football! And to make sure everyone plays evenly we'll set it up like Maui where losers play losers for the rest of the season! Then who ever wins is obviously the best right?

No matter how many teams you make this playoff, 2, 4, 8, or 16 people are going to **** about the teams that do not get in. That's what society likes to do, **** about something that is not fair. They do it in College basketball with 68 teams and 42 of those teams, maybe more, have no shot of winning anything.

I like the idea of 6. Make those conference championship games mean something (that's basically round 1)

IDEA TO GET IT RIGHT:
Step 1: Everyone in D1 A MUST get in a conference. If you're an independent you are not able to compete for a national championship
Step 2: That will give you 10 conferences. (American Athletic, ACC, Big 10, Conference USA, Mid American, Mountain West, Pac 12, SEC, Sun Belt)
Step 3: Each conference winner is in playoffs, and ranked like they do for basketball. The winner of the Sun Belt would likely be the 10 seed every year, playing the winner of the SEC.

This actually is quite an awful idea and solves nothing. You are telling me UL Lafayette deserves to play for a national title before Michigan State, Mississippi State, and TCU??? Plus a 10 team bracket doesn't work. After the 1st round there are 5 remaining teams...

I don't mind 4. I think the issue is each major conference is going to want a team in every year. Let's say the Big 12 doesn't get a team in for the 1st 3 years, I guarantee you the Oklahoma's, Okie State's, and Texas's of that conference is applying to every other major conference. Let's face the SEC is going to have a team in every year. So they other 4 conference are always competing for just 3 spots and that is assuming Notre Dame loses 3 games.

I like the idea of 6 and that would allow the selection committee to really play a rule in determining which 2 teams gets the bye. This allows them to reward the undefeated teams or teams that played a tougher schedule.

Basically the 5 major conferences get a bid and there is 1 wildcard (Notre Dame, Non-Power Conference, or highest ranked power conference team that didn't win their conference).

The biggest issue is these championship games and if it ever became an automatic bid format, I see a lot of conferences rethinking these games. Do you really think the SEC would have wanted to go into their championship game this year knowing that Missouri was their representative in the playoffs if they beat Alabama?
