Had friend get a ticket to the New Mexico game for $1, said the crowd was pathetic. He is from Texas and said they sometimes get bigger and louder crowds at high school games down there. The only plus was he left at halftime and went to the casino where he won $500.

Nets, you do realize that you justified every Pitt fan by your previous post right? Us Pitt fans have one major excuse for our poor attendance, which is there are so many activities in Pittsburgh (as apposed to State College), hence the poor crowds. Thank you kind sir!

Do you really think the 92,000 people who were in state college, flock to Beaver Stadium from their house because there is nothing to do? This isn't Portage where you throw away 3 bucks, go to the game, then go get sloshed at the Olde Keg. I'd venture to guess the majority of the people who go to games at Penn State aren't even from State College. They come from Pittsburgh, Virginia, New York, etc. They come because they WANT to see Penn State. You make it sound like there are only Pitt fans in Pittsburgh. I'd say more than 3/4ths the population of Pittsburgh does not care about Pitt. If you are a Pitt fan, and there are so many more things to do in Pittsburgh, what exactly are you doing during the game? Not watching? Staying home? On the White water Rapids at Kennywood? Are you really that big of a Pitt fan if you aren't going to or watching the game? Especially with tickets that cost a dollar.

The problem at Penn State is certainly not attendance, they have 750,000+ fans visit the field each season.

The problem is that college football, PSU's manufactured sanctimonious image, and most of all the Wizard of Oz behind the curtain Joe Paterno became bigger that Penn State. Kirk is proving that football is still all that matters by boasting about attendance at PSU.

From 1950-2011, but especially from the late 1960s-2011, everyone was watching football, beating their chests screaming WE ARE...better than you, and paying homage to Paterno......

Paterno and company likely knew in the 1970s and 1980s as well, and according to Sandusky prosecutor Joe McGettigan victims of Sandusky from that time period stepped forward. After all, nothing got past Joe, he was sharp as a tack, he remembered everyone and everything. Tell me he didn't know. He never heard of sex with a man? He was an Ivy educated self proclaimed avid reader and scholar of the classics. Please.

When football becomes the only priority and one man has absolute power, corruption happens. Penn State was no exception. They were corrupt to the core under Paterno. Sherrill and Switzer were Mother Teresa's compared to Joe. Wait for the Clery Report.

PSU is trying to clean it up, and I give their current BoT, president, and leadership credit for trying, but cultists and JoeBots keep getting in the way. The sane and reasonable folks at PSU are ashamed at what happened at their beloved university, embarrassed that Paterno had that much power and they all want to move forward. They want the JoeBots and cultists silenced, but there are too many.

Because the restoration of Paterno as a diety and winning, lucrative football are all that matter to far too many PSU alums, fans, cultists, and JoeBots, PSU will wear the scarlet letter of placing football above the welfare of children forever. Sadly, that reputation has been earned and is well deserved. PSU has reaped what they have sown. They will NEVER shed that reputation. EVER.

Kirk, I understand what your saying, but my point is that there are a lot of things to do for people in/around Pittsburgh other than being a Pitt fan. Other than a great run in the 70's and early 80's, Pitt has been extremely mediocre. Big secret huh? It's just a lot easier for people that live in and around the city to do one of the thousands of other activities within the city limits. On top of that, Heinz Field, although a great place to watch a game, isn't exactly the most exciting college experience. Do I have a good time at games? Heck yeah, but it could obviously could be better. An on-campus stadium would be great, but it's hardly feasible.

On the other hand, Penn State has a much more loyal fan base mainly due to putting a consistent winner on the field. There are the obvious integrity issues of the people who put those winning teams out there, but I'll leave that to Titan to discuss. Winning teams put butts in the seats, but it doesn't hurt PSU that there is absolutely nothing to do in the fall within a 2 hour drive of State College other than hitting up the corn mazes. Nothing to do plus winning teams equals huge crowds.

So yeah, the fact that there is a heck of a lot of stuff to do in and around Pittsburgh is nothing more than an excuse, and a poor one at that, but it is one of the many reasons for Pitt's poor attendance.

PSU will always be better than YOU, maybe not other people or schools, but definitely YOU!!! Please come back with something NEW, Sandusky is in prison, Paterno is DEAD, and the other three idiots will get their day in court.
