As long as we dont get the crappy 7 man football you have out here in the west for A schools idc. Watching that type of football is just sad. its like saying ok we'll play area league football on a real football field. speed = championships no need for line

Predictions? Berlin over Tussey mountain. 42-28

Bishop Guilfoyle over Bellowood antis 28-21
^^^
Rivalry renewed

Ps. why did bellwood and BG not schedule each other week 10 these past 2 years. I know from family those two teams have a big rivalry before BG left for LHAC. That would of been nice to see past few years before playoffs.

Bellwood has historically owned BG. I'd take Bellwood in that matchup.

QuoteTheRaven wrote:True and I agree...So any predictions for the Class A D5 and D6 Championships this year???

I think you can rule PM out. Word is Kowalski may be done!!!! Stupic who ran the game winning drive against Liggy is ok but is a sophomore and needs playing time. Plus he is on the small side. Kowalski out also hurts the defense where the defensive backs were already on the weak side.

Long ago, 1985 and 1987 to be exact, BG won the D6 Class AA title and lost the Class A title game in 1991.

When I was in high school I would have considered the BG rivalry a bigger rivalry than Tyrone and my senior year was not that long ago, 2004. We had some pretty big games with BG before they moved to the LHAC. As far as why we didn't play them last game of the regular season the past 2 years, honestly I don't know. I was very surprised to see Richland on the schedule the past 2 seasons (I am not looking forward to that game haha). But I do think BG has really risen up under this new coach and they are a definite contender once again... But I always LOVED the BA-BG rivalry in all sports. It was always a kind of "CATHOLICS vs. CONVICTS" type thing in our eyes back then HAHAHA

D6- BA over BG 28-14

D5- Berlin Brothersvalley over Windber 42-21

Exactly. My cousin graduated 2010, even then whenever they played BA it was huge to everyone from BG. I hope both teams dont matchup on same side though. Thatll be a tough semi final game, kinda like pm vs bm in quarters last year

Even to this day, people who I knew from BGHS still hate Bellwood-Antis when we get on the topic!!! HAHAHAHA I wish they would renew the rivalry even if it's a non-conference game like Tyrone is. It's only a 10-minute drive and it would do A LOT of good for both programs. Because I know personally I'd rather play BG in a non-conference game than anyone else in the area... :D

Ok I did a little research of Portage against the District 5 Champion the past few years to go with this topic.....

Year - D5 Champ - Portage Won/Loss Head to Head
2004 - Berlin - Lost 49 - 42
2005 - Windber - Won 22 - 21
2006 - Meyersdale - Lost 20 - 13
2007 - North Star - Won 21 - 13
2008 - Windber - Won 56 - 8(Portage also beat D5AA Champ North Star this year)
2009 - Conemaugh Township - Won 27 -14
2010 - North Star - Did Not Play
2011 - North Star - Did Not Play
2012 - Berlin - Lost 20 - 7

Portage is 4 -3 in the last 9 years against the District 5 A Champ
