Schools looking to change districts

Plenty of rumors out there about schools that might look to change, some new and some old. Anybody have any updates?

Central Mountain to D4
Juniata to D4 or to D3
Miff Co to D3
Blacklick Valley to D5
Portage to D5
Conemaugh Valley to D5
Claysburg Kimmel to D5
Ligonier Valley to D7
Leechburg to D6
West Shamokin to D6

Hmmm I dont know why liggy wants to go to d7 when they didn't wanna go to lhac. Also both leechburg and west shamokin have had minor interest in d6 and heritage. Idk if the others are true. Why would portage wanna move away from d6?

Portage has tried to leave D6 for D5 a few times. From the 2010 attempt, which was joined by Blacklick and Conemaugh Valley:

"We play all District 5 teams [in the regular season],'' said Portage athletic director and football and track coach Gary Gouse, who, along with superintendent Richard Bernazzoli, will represent his school at the meeting. "In the playoffs, we would like to play the same teams.''

Blacklick Valley is planning on discussing leaving D6 with D5 at the next D5 meeting.

Portage would like to be a perennial district champion instead of heading into the buzzsaw of D-6 A playoff teams.

Berlin D-5 already beat them. So much for your theory at least this year. True the Catholic schools and Bellwood make D6 tougher year-to-year, but PM winning it a couple of years agi proves things change quickly.

True enough, but it would be much easier to be one of the big 3 with Windber and Berlin than to go through the D6 gauntlet each year. I would think Portage would have a 50-50 chance at making the championship game annually in D-5 with their consistency.

And I am not disparaging Portage in any way. They are trying to act in their own best interests and I can' fault them for that.

Portage, Blacklick and Conemaugh Valley seem like a sensible move to D5 don't know bout CK. Although, I would think the more
the merrier,as it would only make D5 a little tougher. Regardless in the post season you still run into the buzz saw of D7. As far as
Portage is concerned, I would say in D5 the road should go through Berlin for the next 2-3 years as they are playing a pile of underclassmen
and I have been told both their JV and Jr. High teams are unbeaten. Not completely sure if this is true as I do not know their records.

Having covered a couple D4 games and speaking to a few ADs, it does appear Central Mt. will be moving to compete in D4 next year...

Outside of Bellwood and the Bishops (who in many opinions shouldn't be in A anyway), I would say District 5 is better overall than District 6 through the years. Eliminate the teams mentioned above and look at District 5. In District 5, you have North Star, Berlin, Northern Bedford, Windber, and Conemaugh Township who have all had very nice teams for the last decade. Meyersdale and Tussey Mountain have snuck into that mix from time to time as well, but not as often.

I think I would take the top 5 in District 5 over the top 5 in District 6 even if you have Bellwood you would have Bellwood, Portage, Penns Manor, Juniata Valley, and Blairsville.

Eliminate the Bishops and teams don't have a problem because they are on a more even playing field. That has been an argument on here forever though. It won't change, but it should. An equal playing field is an equal playing field.

I've heard Central Mountain is trying to gain admission into D4 and the Wyoming Valley Conference.

Leechburg did a double-take this summer and officially withdrew their request to move to D6 when the parents raised concerns about travel times if they joined the Heritage Conference.
