Congrats To All
Great day of hoops. Congrats to the crushers on another trophy. Tyrone got shown the backdoor,....literally. BM schooled the Eagles on discipline and backdoor cuts. And badly exposed the one glaring weakness I've saw. If your a pressing team, and the other team has 4 guys on the floor under 5'10, ....THEY CAN HANDLE THE BALL!!! Go to 1/2 man if you want, but pack it back in on defense for Gods' sake. Biggest difference, Tyrone had 2 kids that could handle the ball, McCort had at least 4, plus our boys got outhustled at times. BM deserved the win, good luck to both next week.

Re: Congrats To All
I think I won my 'dime' on this game.....knew any press would not work but teams do what they did all yr....thought the Tyrone coach got his squad back in game by calling off the press in first half & scrapping zone D in favor of man to man...it hurt him in second half when he tried pressing again but he must have felt need to try something. Basically, I thought Matty V. put the BM team on his back (esp. 2nd half) & carried them to a title with his scoring, defense, penetrating , dishing & leadership! He basically broke that press by himself on most occasions.
BM's starters: Matt V 5' 7, Jack S 5' 8, Mike C 6' 4, Zach Boyd 6' 2, Zach F. 6' 2...it was basically McCort's guards who could break any press.Eaglealum wrote: If your a pressing team, and the other team has 4 guys on the floor under 5'10, ....THEY CAN HANDLE THE BALL!!!
I have to say thank you to me ..." for not being stupid enough to go to Penn State."

Would have to agree, pressing the best pure point guard in the area never usually works out too well.

Yes, pressing Varga would not work.
But he is not even close to the real best point guard in the area.
And everyone should already know who that is

When it was said that Varga was the best "PURE" point guard in the area I would agree. Varga does not worry about how many points he has he worrys about making his teammates better. And if there is another guard that can beat that kid down the court I haven't seen him yet.

This argument isn't even close...miller is a much better point guard and player hands down.highlandsbball wrote: Ball Handling-Tie

Ball Handling-Miller...Varga rarely even uses his left hand! Good crossover but not much more
Speed-If they ran a 40 Varga would win, but in terms of speed up and down the court with a ball in their hands its a toss up--tie
Passing-Miller
Vision-Kinda goes along with passing--Miller
Shooting-Miller
Penetrating-This is close but I will give it to Varga...he can put up a shot in the paint for someone 5'8"
Quickness-...Again it goes hand in hand with "court or game speed"--Miller

Re: Congrats To All
The term "pure point guard" is often misunderstood. The general consensus is that this type of player "makes his team better" and is "unselfish", and he is mostly thought of as a man who thinks assist 90% before shooting the other 10. I never really got the meaning of this term because it implies that the person either is not a scorer or chooses not to score. In reality, a "pure point guard" would be someone that does both: have excellent vision/passing skills and can also hit a shot whenever the opportunity presents itself. Maybe the term originated half a century ago and there were players that were just concerned with passing...but I think the term should be renamed the "complete point guard." Just look at guys like steve nash, who can get double doubles in scoring and assists on a regular basis. He is a perfect example of a complete PG. To me, saying someone is a pure PG implies that he is not a complete player and has a negative connotation...but then again thats just me.

Re: Congrats To All
Couldnt of said it better myself, BlueWhite23. Well, I probably could have, but lets not go there... haha... I would of used J-Kidd of past instead of Nash- Kidd was a triple-double threat every game. Best I've ever seen in my life. Especially in terms "complete" instead of "pure". Nash can just run the court with 2 or 3 guys and dish it off. Kidd played in a half-court style. Thank you very much
Re: Congrats To All
Your all right, this is pretty opionated on what a pure point guard is, but in my eyes it is someone like watson of last year, does not worry about shooting his own shots but sets up the offense and gets shots for others; a pure point guard IMO does not lead his or her team in shots attempted. With that said, obviously Miller is a better player and a better complete point guard like was stated. Now you can argue that yes if Miller had to or wanted to he could be a better pure point guard, but at this point you can not say by his style of play he is indeed one.
