1st Round D5 A Predictions.
Play-in games:
(9) Forbes Road @ (8) Southern Fulton: Forbes road beat Southern Fulton at hometo end the season, but Fulton had already made the playoffs. This one is at Southern Fulton, the place where Forbes lost 70-51 less than a month ago. Southern Fulton is a tough team and will pick it back up in the playoffs.
(10) Berlin @ (7) Shanskville: Berlin has knocked off Shanksville twice this season already. Despite Berlin's late season struggles (lost 5 of 8 ), they have to be confident with the fact they have a psychological advantage going into this game. For me, its really a toss-up. But given that Berlin just beat Shanksville less than 2 weeks ago, I'll go with them.
1st Round Playoffs:
(8) Southern Fulton @ (1) Shade: I dont know which league is better because we dont have an interleague schedule to help make that judgment. What I do know is that I've seen Shade play a lot of games this season and, no matter what, they find a way to win. Even with a less than 100% effort against CV, Shade will handle a tired Southern Fulton team from the night before.
(5) Conemaugh Township @ (4) Northern Bedford: Obviously, you all think I'll make this prediction based on my love for CT. I have to say, in all honesty though, that had CT not won those games against North Star, Conemaugh Valley, and Blacklick down the stretch, I would not pick them to beat anyone. But the fact is, CT has come together as a team and won 6 of 7 conference games to finish out the season. Had CT been playing the way they are now all season, they'd have avoided the close losses to Berlin, Blacklick, NS, and Windber and would be sporting a 17-2 record and seeded much higher in the playoffs. If CT can play like they have for the last month, I have confidence that they can pull the "upset".
(10) Berlin @ (2) Tussey Mountain: I've heard great things about Tussey Mountain and they're ability to frustrate you late in games, much like Shade can do, if they get the momentum they need. Personally, I think even an off-night for Tussey won't be too bad as Berlin will be tired out from having to fight for their playoff lives the night before. Tussey rolls, IMO.
(6) Rockwood @ (3) Fannett Metal: This is a tough one to call. Most upsets in basketball tournaments come when a 6 beats a 3. Rockwood has finished the season strong losing only @ Shade (by 7) and at home to Shanskville in nearly the last month. Metal, on the other hand has been consistently dominant, losing only 1 game since December (according to maxpreps). This one, for me, comes down to which league is better. The ICC was supposedly better in football than the westpac but layed a goose-egg in the playoffs. I'd like to think the same will happen between the WesPAC and Sideling Hill in basketball, but it's tough to say. It's kind of a coin-flip but I'm gonna have to take the consist winning team in this one.
What do you guys think? Especially interested in what you have to say, DrJekyllMrHyde

Re: 1st Round D5 A Predictions.
Well, my brain was fried by the heat of the UPJ Sport's Center, but I've since recovered. Here's my thoughts on the first round games..Before I talk about the playoffs, I've gotta say that I believe that the Conemaugh Valley boys WAS the best team in the WestPac North. They put 5 players on the court, unlike NS who don't have that same luxury this year. Have we learned it's a TEAM sport yet lads? (Congrats to Zell*m on his signing to play college level football.) Oh, btw, the "*" was to save your sanity ctindian.
OK, Here's some thoughts on this game...I won't call them anything more than thoughts-do I hear the sound of 'cha-ching' (so absolutely kidding!)
(9) Forbes Road @ (8) Southern Fulton- For some reason, I've gotta go with SF, but if FR would pull it out, "I should a gone with my gut" is going to come out of my mouth.
(10) Berlin @ (7) Shanksville: Irony here-#7 Shanksville has got to beat out Berlin to stay at #7, but I'm thinking Berlin is going to pull this one out. I've just got some lingering doubts about Shanksville.
1st Round Playoffs:
(8) Southern Fulton @ (1) Shade: I''m going with Shade on this one. I strongly doubt the Shade boys are done with their checklist yet, and the Shade faithful are still going to be all torqued up after their conference championship and ready to go for this game, and SF is going to have a tough play-in game just the night before.
(5) Conemaugh Township @ (4) Northern Bedford: I'm going with CT here. I've followed their steady improvement over the course of the season and think they can pull it out, although CT better have a better fan turnout to support them over the mountain than they've mustered for some of their late season home games that coincided with their rise in the standings.
(10) Berlin @ (2) Tussey Mountain:Just 2 letters here TM. Sorry Berlin, I think you can beat Shanksville (that should give me some points), but I don't think you can go to TM and win there.
(6) Rockwood @ (3) Fannett Metal: I agree with ctindian, its a tough one to call. Just something about the way Rockwood played that got under my skin makes me want to think about bolding Rockwood here, but they gotta play on FM's home court and that's not something I'd wish on my enemy. So, FM it is.
Well, all that said, this is playoff time where ANYTHING can happen as each team knows it could be 1-and-done, unless you're the final 3 standing. So ctindian, it looks like there's some outliers between me, you and bball22.
GO!!!!!!!.........oh wouldn't you like to know!

Re: 1st Round D5 A Predictions.
I'll take Shanksville in the first play-in and I'm gonna go with Southern Fulton (more expierience) but i wouldn't be surprised to see Forbes Road take this game as well.
For the main Bracket my picks are:
Shade
Conemaugh Township (they are on a roll)
Tussey Mtn.
Rockwood (just curious, iv'e heard talk that Fannett cannot host a playoff game being that they are outside of the actual district area. Is there any truth to this?)
If the bracket plays out like this then the Semi's could be the best that D5 has seen in quite some time.

Re: 1st Round D5 A Predictions.
Just a quick side note - Why do they keep having Championship games at UPJ (or "the oven"). Everytime I go there, the heat is horrible. If it's hot for the fans, imagine how the players feel. Come on UPJ, turn on the building HVAC control system. And WestPac and District 5, find a better venue for these games.

Must not be any truth to it as the Site for the FM game is listed as FM on the D5 brackets.bballfreak2000 wrote: (just curious, iv'e heard talk that Fannett cannot host a playoff game being that they are outside of the actual district area. Is there any truth to this?)

Just heard that Tussey Mountains big man Eric Shuke broke his ankle and is done for the season. He was a big part of their offense and its gonna be tough without him.

When did Shuke break his ankle? In the ICC game on Saturday? If that is true they will one and done. They won't beat F-M in the semis without a full team effort.

Well the last time i checked FM has to win their first round game to have a shot at playing anytime in the second round.philip's dad wrote:When did Shuke break his ankle? In the ICC game on Saturday?
