State Championship Game... Public vs. Private

Post by hornets69 »

Do private schools have an advantage over public schools to appear in a state championship game? You decide. Here are the results from 1983-2009 for Class A and AA for boys and girls. Looks like alot of Bishops, Christians, Acadamies, and Cahothlic schools as both Winners and Runner ups. Maybe someone can come up with some statistics.

For those not doing the math, that's 51 out of 96 teams in the finals for the boys have been private schools.
and 66 out of 96 teams for the girls side being private schools. Valid point I believe.

haha i dont think its a valid point. for the boys it comes out to be a 53 % for privates ( basicaly half and half) and a 68 percent for privates in girls. i think thats hardly the numbers someone would expect. u need to come with harder stats then that. someone has to have the lead when u look at it publics vs privates. what if the publics had the edge in the series, would we be saying how unfair it was then? u gotta come up with some better stats then that.

It is when you consider there are over 500 public schools in PA and under 100 privates that offer sports, yet the group with less than 20 % is getting over 50% of the finals slots and close to 70% with the girls.

what are the percentages for the last 5 years? 10 years? 15 years? it appears that recently, the odds are more in the private schools favor than the publics favor to make an appearance in the championship game. how about breaking it down to A vs. AA as well.

geez...The guy doesn't need to write a dissertation here fellas.

About 10% of schools in A and AA in the state of PA are private schools. They make up around 60% of the teams in the finals considering boys and girls all together though... It just is really strange how that can happen

Think of it like this..Ignore the numbers..they were ratings and enrollments...these are the schools in D5 and 6. Without counting there are like 55 teams here...around 5 are privates (and jtown christian isn't really that good at all in sports at least right now they aren't)

Carroll, McCort, BG, and JTown Christian are the privates...

Of all teams listed how many are in state finals? 1.. It is a private school. Same team was there last year too. Now think of the fact that nearly every district is like this... HOW ARE 50+ PERCENT OF THE TEAMS PRIVATE AND IN THE STATE FINALS? Mathematically it just doesn't make sense. It makes sense that these schools are spread out and in areas where there are bigger schools and they can pull from all of them without boundary.

You almost have to look at the last 8 teams left in the state tourney. There usually is 7 out of 8 private with a good public school that usually makes it to the finals. Come on, we all know private has the upper hand.

i added the 07-08 and 08-09 teams. looks like more private schools on the list.

it looks like the last Boy's A public school to make the championship game was Union in 2003, so in the last 10 years, 5% has been public 95% private schools.

is trinity a private school? mt. alvernia?
