ALTOONA CURVE CLASSIC

Post by lhacbigfan »

This weekend at Blair County Ballpark and featuring a variety of teams from different leagues, and there is usually some good games. Here is the schedule for Friday:

Cambria Heights vs Bishop Guilfoyle, 10am
Clearfield vs Hollidaysburg, 12:30pm
Lewistown vs Central, 3pm
Somerset vs Altoona, 5:30pm

3 of these teams are currently undefeated (HBURG, SOM, ALT) and the premier first round matchup looks to be Somerset and Altoona...

Any thoughts on this tournament? How will Somerset fare?

With all due respect to Fees, Heights has too many holes defensively to compete in that kind of game. I saw a little bit of the CH/CC game and the Heights kids were dropping routine pop flies. What WOULD/WILL be a great game is Somerset/Altoona with Smithmyer throwing for Altoona.

Good point. Smithmyer is like 4-0 and is averaging 10-11 K's a game and already has a no hitter this year. Should be a great game between 2 good teams.

Although all the great baseball analysts have screen names that are childish euphemisms for sex, I'll have to point out that no one made any grand statement about baseball being better in Altoona. I'm well aware of the quality of baseball all across "this area" and "that area" and I've seen both Somerset and Altoona play numerous times and if Smithmyer pitches, Altoona and Somerset will be a good game.

Early games:
Moyer keeps Clearfield in it for a while, but Hollidaysburg had too much.
BG kids do an admirable job against Fees (who hit 88 on the speed pitch) and hang on 2-1.

Altoona 3, Somerset 1.
