Cobaugh In at Johnstown
I read in the paper today that Johnstown hired Neil Cobaugh as the Trojans next coach. I couldn’t tell if the article was about what Neil has done as a basketball coach or Roman.
Honestly I think this will go down as the biggest botch coaching hire in recent years. Even worse than Crissafoli at Westmont.
I would love to hear everyone's opinion on this??????

At a big school that has had recent success the pressure to win will be great. Johnstown has a great young group coming up and should help make things easier.
I do believe if for some reason Johnstown is not able to win, with the group they have coming up then Cobaugh may be out of coaching basketball as fast as Crisafolli.
I do agree Trojan4life that it sounds like Cobaugh's resume was mainly piggy backing off of what Roman Jr. has accomplished.

I have not yet read the article, so I don't know exactly what you are talking about. BUT.....of course his resume is going to look nearly identical to Roman's because they have been together for the last ten years, thus accomplishing the same things. The only difference is that Roman accomplished those things as a head coach and Cobaugh as an assistant. Nonetheless, they have achieved the same things as far as district titles and conference championships go.I do agree Trojan4life that it sounds like Cobaugh's resume was mainly piggy backing off of what Roman Jr. has accomplished.

Let me give yall some scoop. The kids and the parents already signed a petition to hire coach ryan durham, and that didnt work. There is another one being made as we speak to get cobaugh to resign already. If that doesnt work we the players have decided to seat out this basketball season no one wanted coach cobaugh as the head coach.

Completely and utterly ridiculous. The board made their decision, so go with it.
Don't let a bunch of asinine parents have their biased influence mar the situation further. And if you are a student-athlete and you decide to sit out the season, go for it! Obviously you aren't committed to the sport and shouldn't be playing in the first place.
Personally, I could care less who Johnstown hired. But to read a post like this from a student-athlete is extremely disturbing and typical of where our society continues to head.

What is asinine is we had a canadiate that was well qualified who has been coaching us for 4 years and the school some how misplaced his resume and didnt interview him because he is not in politacally and because he is BLACK.Portage Alum wrote:Completely and utterly ridiculous. We had a better canadiate and we dont want to play for anyone but him. The school board can't do want they want when they want anymore, we will sit until we get what we want and whats fair. You dont know whats going on then dont post on here Portage Alum

Honestly pulling a race card, come on. If you feel that he was more qualified and would have made a better coach then so be it. But saying that the Johnstown school board is racist is going a bit far. If you look back a mere six years ago Dan Shipman was coaching Johnstown; who by the way is an african american.

They had different board members when Shipman was hired than there is now. Johnstown has mainly black kids and you only have 3 black coaches in the whole school in all the sports. there is something wrong with that.Basketball IQ wrote:Honestly pulling a race card, come on. And because Shipman was black and messed up they are not going to hire another black coach because of him.

If this is true I can see why people would be upset. I wonder how long it will take for the Trib to get a hold of this. If the school board has done shady or unpractical hiring methods the papers will expose itCoachEmUp wrote:Let me give everyone some official background. I turned in two copies of my resume one on 05/26/09 those are the facts.
Now on 27th of May I made my references aware through email that I had turned in my resume and to please start sending letters and making phone calls. I even personally called members of the school board and made them aware I was applying for the position. The job posting closed on June 4th, and I wasn’t made aware the school didn’t receive my resume until June 5th when one of my references made a phone call on my behalf; what a coincidence. After my references spoke to several people in the school well before that date and know one mention anything about not recieving my resume. So I turned in my second resume at that time.
I even got called for an interview for the position which was later cancelled because the stamp they put on my resume was for 06/15/09 and past the postings close date. So I never received an interview.
I will not pass the blame or accuse anyone of anything, that’s for the conspiracy theorist to do.
I wish Johnstown athletics and Neil the best of luck.
