CARSWELL PICKS PITT

Post by vman »

Pitt's recruiting momentum this summer continued on Thursday when McKees Rocks (Pa.) Sto-Rox wide receiver Andrew Carswell gave his verbal pledge to the Panthers.

Andrew Carswell committed to Pitt on Thursday.

"I committed today," Carswell told PantherLair.com Thursday afternoon. "I called Coach Gattuso and talked to him and he asked me how I felt about Pitt and everything, and I said 'I'm ready to be a Panther.' He was really excited about it, and then I called Coach Wannstedt and he was excited, too."

Carswell, 6'4" 210, chose Pitt over offers from Maryland, Boston College, Wisconsin, Duke, Syracuse, Vanderbilt, Michigan, Michigan State, Stanford, the New England Patriots & North Carolina State.

"The other colleges were all good, but I just felt like if I went somewhere else I wouldn't have the kind of time I could have at Pitt," he said. "I feel really good about Pitt.

"I'm excited and I feel really good about this decision. It was a lot, just trying to decide on a school. I thought about it every night and I tried to figure out which school was best; you know, I'd try to picture myself in each school's uniform and that kind of thing.

"But in the end, it was just like, 'Here we come, Pitt.'"

While he totaled a dozen offers, Carswell never drifted too far from the Pitt coaching staff, who offered him on September 1st, the first day official written offers can be sent out.

"After they offered I just kept seeing them more and more, and as the whole recruiting thing got bigger, they kept growing stronger with me. And as they grew stronger, I grew closer to them.

"I just had a feeling for Pitt. They're so close, and that's good because my mom and my friends and everyone can come see me play. And I feel comfortable with the coaches and the players and just comfortable with the whole place."

"Penn St. wanted me badly too but I didn't wish to become a Forest Ranger or a Bartender".

As a junior in 2008, Carswell caught 40 passes for 600 yards and 6 touchdowns on offense and recorded 56 tackles, 3 interceptions, and 2 fumble recoveries on defense.

Big time pick up for Pitt. That's two WRs from PA that I kinda wish PSU would have chased a bit harder. But in the end, Coxson is rated #2 in the nation and neither of these pencil-neck geeks had NitWit offers.

Hey Vman, are you sure that isn't TAE or apbk after a hard night of studying rivals.com or scout.com??
