The Pirates Finally Make Some Good Moves

I think the Pirates did what they had to today in trading away Freddy Sanchez, Jack Wilson, and Ian Snell. Freddy and Jack were definitely both gone after this season, so it was wise to move both of them. They actually got some highly touted prospects while they were at it. Jeff Clement was a nice pick-up for the Bucs. Also, I was surprised that they got Alderson from the Giants. His potential is sky high. Don't fall over. Yes, the Pirates actually made a trade where they got a kid that is a highly rated prospect. These moves don't make up for the idiotic moves of dealing McLouth and Morgan earlier this year, but it's a step in the right direction for those of you that are Pirate fans.

Have you watched Charlie Morton pitch? I do not care about losing McClouth now at all. The guy is hitting like .245 in Atlanta. Morton can dish it man! His fastball is 94-95 and it moves. That speed was maintained into the 6th inning last night too. I am just really enjoying watching him pitch. He is pretty stinking good.

Nyjer has turned it on even more now that the Nats let him run more. His average also went way up. HOWEVER, Milledge should be on the big club by this weekend and he has been doing very well at AAA....to top it all off...it opened the door for Garrett Jones and he has been awesome for a month. I just hope he can be .290, 25 HR, 100 RBI guy for this team. I really think he could be that type of player.

Once again, I am very happy with everything the new regime has done so far this season with their trades and pickups.

Well, it is now officially Neil Huntingdon's team. We may see one of the relief pitchers (most likely Grabow) moved today or tomorrow, but Doumut and a few SPer's are all that is left from the Littlebrain era. Would not be totally surprised to see either Malholm or Duke moved in the next two days. Neither fit the mode of the type of pitcher that Huntingdon has been bringing into the system and he could see them as expendable.

I don't have a problem with the moves that are being made because the buccos have had 16 losing seasons so trying something different can't be any worse. I just can't shake the feeling that money is still a major factor in most of the decisions.

Could shake that feeling if the money saved on some of these trades would go towards signing Sano.

By the way, I'm starting to think after taking a look at things again...I have a Pirate-Crush on Charlie Morton.

Charlie Morton will never win more than 10 games in a season. He's a decent 4 or 5 starter in the Major Leagues. He's as inconsistent as Ian Snell. Have you seen the kids Minor League statistics before this year? The Braves don't trade away good pitchers. Remember that before you get too much of a man crush.

I went to watch... He was very good for 5 and 1/3. Russell needs to pull guys when they need to be pulled. He left Karstens in wayyyyyy to long.

I have had alot of faith in the trade of Freddy Sanchez to the Giants after a friend brought up to me how we traded middle reliever Jason Christensen to whatever team, (all the trades seem to blend together) and the prospect we got in return was a shortstop, then in AA, named Jack Wilson. Being that Freddy Sanchez is a much better player than Christensen was, I have very lofty expectations for what this pitcher will be able to do. If you look at Huntington's trades with the Indians, he made them a competitor after 8 losing seasons. Hopefully the same can be done here.
