Bailey's huge milestone slighted by asinine Democrat
There are a lot of different ways you can weigh the worth of a head coach's body of success and failure. But I think we can all agree that these criteria are essential: 1. Did the coach make a very important and positive impact on virtually every player he coached, at an age when those kids were very impressionable? 2. Did the coach win the games he "should" have won with an extremely high success rate? 3. Was the coach able to consistently present not only winning teams but also championship teams?
Don Bailey did all of that 100 fold. Bailey's teams never needed to use overloads of trickery to demolish opponents. Defenses were always essentially the best defense in the area.
For the local newspaper to push Bailey's 300th win to page 3 of THE FOOTBALL SECTION OF THE PAPER is not only a travesty, it is also completely pathetic. Now, we have all come to have very low expectations from this joke of a newspaper, which constantly has piss-poor journalism as well as multiple typos and grammatical and spelling errors, but this is a joke.
Did they do it on purpose? This is a massive high school football milestone. It could not have happened to a better coach. But you can be rest assured that if Ken Salem won 300 games, it not only would be on the front of the FOOTBALL SECTION, it would be on the front page of the Tribune Democrat. With a bunch of typos, I am sure.
The news of the milestone sure as hell would not be buried behind United's monsterous victory over a garbage Bishop Guilfoyle team.

What a great post. It hasn't been awhile since I have read a sensible post on here that didn't deal with McCort and their school.
You are right though, if this was ole Kenny Salem Tribune Democrat would have a picture of him plastered on the front pages and also two or three more pictures of the game and a full laid out 2 page article devoted to them. What did FH get a picture of him spanning half the page and a crappy little article about the game.
Over the years I have grown to actually looking at the journalist writing the article. If I see Mastovich or a very few select others then I will take my time to read it. But if I see the lady journalist (name is slipping my memory right now) I will not read the article at all. I think she cares more about her pickems everyweek other then what a paper should be concerned about which is the journalism. She is absolutely the worst writer they have down there.

I agree totally. The newspaper as well as WNTJ radio is disgustingly biased in favor of McCort. Schools like Forest Hills have their accomplishments without the help of "recruiting". Just like NBC is towards Notre Dame so is the Democrat and WNTJ towards McCort. The whole situation makes me sick.

What the rationale for the United game taking top billing? The fact vthat they won their first Heritage title? Okay, well, if that was the reasoning for making United the featured story, why was Blacklick's hosting of their first-ever playoff game pushed TO THE LAST PAGE OF THE SECTION?

First, I totally agree with all of you guys. Bailey, FH, fan support and success go together like the 4 ninja turtles. You can't separate them and the green machine will cowabunga your tail on the football field.
Second, why bring BM and Salem into this? Clearly it has everything to do with the TD and nothing whatsoever to do with BM. As a BM fan, you can rest assured your loss will be front page, opposing team will be Chrysler team of the week, and those full-page articles are paid for.
Third, I there are better articles on here (probably the reason everyone reads it-including coaches) than in the tribune, sure a little slighted one way or the other, but at least people are passionate.

United? Really? They're in Indiana County and played a team from Blair County. How do you have a paper that features teams that aren't even in the usual coverage area? How many people that support United and Guilfoyle actually read the Tribune-Democrat? Probably not a lot, and definitely not as many who support Forest Hills. BG and United already get plenty of pub from the Mirror and the Indiana Gazette. Not to speculate, but had Bailey been a coach in the Altoona area, you bet your a$$ that his win would have been featured heavily in the Mirror. He's only the 9th coach in Pennsylvania HISTORY to win 300 games! Look at Jim Roth at Southern Columbia, who recently won 300 games earlier this season. I guarantee you that he was featured extensively out there in District 4. 300 win coaches don't just pop up everyday. I honestly feel bad for Coach Bailey to not to be recognized as he should have been because the knuckleheads at the Tribune were more concerned about a crappy game out in Indiana county. Horrible.
Re: Bailey's huge milestone slighted by asinine Democrat
I would like to commend Somerset for the tribute paid to Don Bailey after the game last night. Despite witnessing a rough outing by the Golden Eagles, the game's announcer was a true gentleman, showering Coach Bailey with all the accolades he deserved for the accomplishments of his successful coaching career. It was also amazing how many Somerst fans stayed for the on-field ceremony. Too bad the Tribune didn't say half as much as that Somerset announcer. Of course, in the mind of the Tribune, 300 career coaching wins is not nearly as newsworthy as Bishop McCort hockey coach John Bradley being hired as a physical education/health instructor and manager of the Bach Wellness Center ( top headline, Tribune - Democrat sports page, article entitled "McCort Hockey Coach Gets In-School Job", September 29, 2009 ). Pathetic, isn't it.
Re: Bailey's huge milestone slighted by asinine Democrat
Not to down play Bailey's 300th victory, or FH's win at Somerset...
However, the United/BG game WAS a playoff game. The FH/Somerset game was a meaningless game-10 deal forced on the schools by D6.
United has ALWAYS been in the Tribune coverage area. The school is located 10-miles from the City of Johnstown. How many miles is Sidman from Johnstown?
And, as for the accolades being given to Mastovich... cut me a break. Whose by-line was on the FH/Somerset story? And who writes all of those glowing Bishop McCort stories? Again, check the by-lines. The only thing that interrupts his worship of Bishop McCort, is if the Chiefs sign some broken-down hockey retread.

Who really cares how far sidman is from jtown versus how far United is... United beat BG in a playoff game, who was really paying attention to that game anyway...
Re: Bailey's huge milestone slighted by asinine Democrat
i think it should have been atleast on the front paige. i mean come on 300 wins! what other coach has done that in that amount of time.
