Saw the Blacklick Valley vs Bellwood game tonight.
Same old BA, line it up and smash it down your throat. Threw when they needed to. Solid Defense.
Can't wait to see them play Portage.


On the other hand, Blacklick. Completely unimpressed. Who did they beat this year.
Terrible play calling. Running a 2hole dive as part of your two minute offense at the end of the half might work against CV, Shade or Ferndale.
Terrible defensive plan. Bellwood is smashing it down your throat and you are lining up in the 4-3 with a strong safety 12 yards back off the ball.
Absolutely unable to throw the ball.
Worthington is a stud, but they do little to get him the ball and use him in an effective manner.
(I remember the days when a kid like this would have been leading the Huskies to a District title. LOL)

Good Job beating up on the Westpac and powerhouse Glendale, hope you enjoyed your trip to Bellwood.

Youngbuck I was also at the game but saw things a little differently. As unimpressed as you might be, that ballgame could have easily been 7-0 at the half. The first BA touchdown came on a fourth down and about seven and Plummer throws a pass that is misplayed by probably the best DB on the field Worthington. He picks that ball 9 out of 10 times, just happened to be the one time. The smash mouth football came when #43 from Blacklick was injured and Coach Hayes pounded his replacement into the ground. Blacklick being a very small school does not have depth and that one injury was crucial for them. Not that BV would have won but it did hurt them defensively. Bellwood is a 10-0 football team for a reason!

As for play calling and coaching decisions, you will be questioning Paterno, Tomlin and all the other no nothings that call themselves coaches this weekend too.

Bellwood will have there handsful with Portage. It will be a good game but Portage might have too much offense for the Blue Devils.

I wasn't at the game, but by talking to others who were there and reading the articles, the game was much closer than most predicted. Don't forget, Blacklick is a 4th place WestPac team. It seems to me that Bellwood plays to the level of their competition. If so, next weeks game is going to be terrific.

You can't take anything away from Blacklick, they had a great season. Like you said above, Blacklick is a small A school usually graduating in 60s-70s. Bellwood is almost double their size.

D6Guru - It was a better game than most expected but again Bellwood has a very good team. Portage-Bellwood should be a great game.

Youngbuck-I thought about the hurry up offense that you mentioned and I do recall a dive play on the first play. I try to think things out and maybe spreading the field, going shotgun with a single set, spreads them out anticipating a throw. A dive could catch them off guard and with the two backs Blacklick has they could break a big gainer. Just a possible thought process. What do I know?

By the way Bellwoods backs were very strong. I was impressed. There will be some powerful backs in next weeks action.

The injury to the defensive end had absolutely nothing to do with the out come of the game. And to that note, injuries occur. The two scores for Blacklick were when the score was 28-0 and the game was well in control, BA was subbing. Made it look a lot closer than it was. Admittedly the first quarter was a stalemate.

No wide reciever or tight end caught a pass for Blacklick.
Worthington was not beat on the deep touch down on fourth down, it was 88 the deep/ free safety.

Why do you stay in a 4-3 when Bellwood is driving it down your throat.
What attempt was there to get Teddy on the outside, simply ran dives and power plays to him. instead Julock ran all the sweeps.

BUT, the crowd for Blacklick was very impressive, great support for a team, Good Job Nanty Glo.

No joke injuries occur but Coach Hayes really seemed to pound the side of the replacement. Also on offense Blacklick went from about a 6'3" 200 TE to a 5'9" 150 TE following the injury.

Bellwoods starters were in at the end. If I am not mistaken #38 made the tackle on Worthington at the two. Could be wrong but thought that is what I saw. Bellwood could tackle too. They hit low and made some nice open field tackles.

The Vikings had roughly seven completion and I will go out on the limb but Julock caught two out of the backfield that I clearly remember and Worthington had a reception lined up wide as did Stiles and #88. #10 dropped a pass on a slant pattern. Julock ran a lot of sweeps but in the offense that Blacklick runs it appears to be an effective play. I thought Blacklick's line was overpowered and wore down as the game went on. Bellwood was big and strong on the line. I do not know, and again, what do I know but I do not know how much success BV would have had up the middle because of the line.

Worthington was deep with Campbell on the touchdown. Maybe the safety should have been over but again not an expert.

You seem bitter against the Vikings program? Referring to Worthington as Teddy never heard him called that. I do not have ties to BV but they are one of my favorite WestPAC teams. I always remember the enthusiasm in that little town for football and this goes back when I followed there season when George Yokitis quarterbacked the team in the 60's. They had a Coach back then who was a great competitor, I think his name was Gates do not have a first name.

I also tip my hat to the BV Fans and townspeople Coach Zamboni made a nice comment regarding them. Blacklick had three losses this season and those three teams are a combined 29-1. The Vikes can walk with there heads up Great, Great Season.

maybe this is why it was only 34-14 and the vikings "hung with" bellwood for a quarter

McCaulley didn't do too badly either, running for 138 yards on 17 carries in three quarters as the 10-0 Devils amassed 409 total yards. Travis Taylor started at tailback in place of McCaulley, who spent the first quarter on the sideline because he missed some practice time.

"It's not a big thing," Hayes said. "He missed a couple minutes of practice, and our policy is to miss a quarter. As soon as the quarter was over, he did good."

Ted Worthington scored BV's first touchdown on a 6-yard run in the fourth quarter. Julock scored the last one with three-tenths of a second left in the game on a 2-yard run. In between, McCaulley bolted for a 33-yard touchdown run with 2:56 left.
