McCort vs Millersburg
McCort vs Millersburg
Well its state playoff time, and all year I've been saying the winner of D6 A has a legit shot at a state title. So obviously I don't know much about Millersburg except that their 10-3, their the Indians, and their 3 losses are 21-6 vs Delone Catholic(11-2 lost to Lancaster Catholic in D3 AA title game), 21-20(2ot) @ Pine Grove(3-6), and 20-13 @ Line Mountain(8-4, lost to Southern Columbia in D4 A title game). Me personally I'm taking the Crushers here, I'll say 35-21. What do people think?
Re: McCort vs Millersburg
If it was Bellwood playing Millersburg I would be rooting for the Devils. However it is one of the scools from the Evil Empire..BM, BC and BG. So the representative from District 6 A is bogus. Go Millersburg!
Re: McCort vs Millersburg
Darn, thought I'd have more time! Haha, anyway, here's a little write up. And of course, congratulations to the Crimson Crushers on their 4th consecutive title, and the Blue Devils on another great season.
Bishop McCort (District 6 Champion, 12-0) vs Millersburg (District 3 Champion, 10-3)
Indians' coach Roy Wall finally got the redemption he was waiting for. For the past two years, Millersburg's championship hopes were dashed by Steelton-Highspire, but the scrappy Indians finally broke through. They upset old nemesis and defending state champions Steel High in the semifinals, 14-13. This past week they edged Upper Dauphin 15-12 to claim the title. This was the second meeting between the two squads this season, as they faced off in week 8, a 26-6 Millersburg win. The first half was scoreless, but two key interceptions by senior DB James Young in the second half set up both scoring drives for the Indians.
The PA Football News #5 Millersburg Indians come into this week's game at 10-3, and as the first District 3 champion coming out of the Twin Valley Conference. However, they have been without the services of senior quarterback Jared Wolfgang, who has been out with a knee injury since the quarterfinals. Their losses this year came at the hands of Delone Catholic (21-6), Pine Grove (21-20), and Line Mountain (20-13). Line Mountain lost to perennial state power Southern Columbia 42-12 in the District 4 final. Fellow Twin Valley Conference competitor Tri-Valley takes on Southern Columbia this week as well.
Defense is the name of the Indians' game, and since their last loss in week 5, they have only given up 50 points. On defense they are only giving up a slim 11.5 PPG, and are averaging 20.6 PPG on the offense. For the year, junior full back Andrew Acker leads the Indians on the ground, rushing for 766 yards, followed by Wolfgang with 458. However, they've only have had two backs break the 100 yard barrier (East Juniata: Acker and Miller, Tri-Valley: Acker) on the year. Wolfgang has also thrown for 750 yards, with his main targets being Nolan Allman (15, 207), James Miller (12, 256), and Ian Klinger (16, 297). Defensively through 12 weeks, OLB Freddie “Soup” Campbell tops the list with 102 tackles and LG Seth Ladgraf has 97. (Stats were not updated for the Upper Dauphin game yet.) Millersburg is also hurting for depth across the board, dressing only 33 players, many of which are first time starters. Only Lomount Mills returns on the defensive line. This is a stark contrast to the big boys of McCort, as most, if not all, have had significant playing time the past 2 years. This has the potential to hurt the Indians big time, and I really think it will.
Now, for the Crushers. Bishop McCort won the clash of the small-school titans this past Saturday, but it wasn't without overcoming adversity. Seidel passed up all-time McCort great Artrell Hawkins for most rushing yards in a single season and most combined rushing/receiving yards in a season. But really, the play of the game was the fumble recovery by Chaz Merriman that set up another Seidel touchdown. Had that not happened, B-A might very well be in the position McCort is in right now. Having Domonkos at wide receiver added another dimension to the offense, and compliments the running game when needed pretty well. It was by far the biggest test of McCort's season, and will hopefully help them in the long run.
In the end, I like the Crushers. The Twin Valley Conference kind of seems like the red-headed step child of District 3. This was Millersburg's first district title, but I don't see them making it out of this round. They are fairly big underdogs in this one and I don't see David slaying Goliath. The big win over Steel High might be cause for concern, but my understanding is that the Rollers are about 1-2 years away from regaining their dominance in District 3. Lack of depth and size will be the demise of the Indians. I can see McCort's line dominating the line of scrimmage all day long, effectively shutting down Millersburg's already lack luster running game which only managed 96 total yards against Upper Dauphin. Crushers move on to the Eastern Final.

Re: McCort vs Millersburg
Wrong score my bad i still think mccort is the best on the eastern side..
Re: McCort vs Millersburg
You got me on the overall coverage of the LHAC Crimson, so I'll say you've got me beat in that regard. But it does seem like we said about the same things haha. Oh well, I think think we'll both end up being right on this one
The tell tale sign of a Crusher win might be the fact that Millersburg has trouble generating offense. Upper Dauphin was no slouch, but they certainly weren't world beaters by any stretch. UD out gained Millersburg 241-92 according to PennLive. In fact, they dominated the entire stat sheet. The two interceptions killed them. Had that not happened, McCort would be playing them instead.
And don't forget Southern Columbia, they're dangerous in my opinion.
