No Gold For the WPIAL This Year?

Post by Zeitgeist »

Is there no golden football in sight for the WPIAL this year? It hasn't happened since way back in 1992 when they were shut out. Could it happen this year?

Clairton will get by Conemaugh Township pretty easily this week (sorry Indian fans) and then will more than likely run into a Farrell team that pushed them to the brink last season until Clairton scored late. Should be another good game this year as well.

Greensburg Central Catholic plays a scrappy Bedford squad this week, and then, assuming they win (they will) will either meet up with Forest Hills or defending champs Wilmington. Either game will be tough for them, but probably more so the Wilmington match up. Miller vs Burns or Dudukovich would be well worth the price of admission.

West Allegheny has tough row to hoe in order to get to Hershey. They start off with what many consider as the favorite coming out of the “west” with Erie Cathedral Prep, who have only lost to Ohio teams and beat up on their PA competition. After that, they would probably face #1 Manheim Central. Good luck!

Woodland Hills has the toughest route to the championship in my opinion. They upset Gateway last week and now move on to play State College, who aren't too shabby of a football team either. Kenny and crew might have something to say about the Wolverines moving on when it's all said and done. But assuming Woody High makes it out alive, they get the task of playing Bishop McDevitt. Both games are pretty big tests before the championship.

The next few weeks will be interesting!

"Row to hoe". As in farming.

Bold post. But I kinda like it. I think the WestA is one of the better teams playing in Triple A and will make it to Hershey. #7 could be the best player in the WPIAL. they will have a though but very winnable game against prep. GCC will weather the storm against Bedford, but FH could knock them off. Didn't get the pleasure to see the Rangers play, but they usually come to play. I think we will see at least 2 of the 4 WPIAL teams at Hershey with atleast one of them taking Gold back to 412.

Watching Shell and Caputo trade TDs all night last weekend was awesome. If I had to pick I'd probably take Shell over Caputo by a hair for best back in the WPIAL.
I said that Erie Prep didn't lose to any PA teams when they actually lost to Erie McDowell in the first game of the season 14-7. That being said, I really think that West A will have their hands full if Caputo is held in check. He pretty much carried his team to the WPIAL championship with 4 rushing TDs. I think if the Ramblers can keep him from having a big night, they'll come away with the victory.

I would like for the OP to be right, but did you watch GCC play last week on tv? They had some tough losses early but are CLEARLY back together now. I have never seen such a beatdown in a WPIAL Championship game in ages.

Confused again I see.

Hey, I just posted this as something to think about. I'll agree that GCC beat up on the Quips pretty darn good from what I saw. Wilmington is still Wilmington though. I'm just saying, if GCC does end up playing them in the Western Final, I wouldn't be surprised if the Hounds knocked them off.

I'm rooting for FH to beat Wilmington this week though, so none of what I said about Wilmington may matter if the Rangers pull the upset.

I think FH wins this week against wilmington 21-14 giving up double digits for the first time all year. For those wondering FH was probaly good enough last year to make a run as well...McCort fans moving to single A was a wise choice...
