Totally Embarassing.

Post by The Ancient Enemy »

Let's revisit this madness. New one should come out soon for the 2009-10 bowl teams.

http://www.tidesport.org/Grad%20Rates/2 ... _Study.pdf

I personally feel that anything under 75% is an embarassment. That's 3 out of every 4 kids. Since there are very little kids who leave early from any individual team per season due to early NFL enrollies, or transfers to other schools, 3 out of 4 should take care of any of those departures.

We'll look at the overall graduation rates of all the bowl teams, listed in order by overall football graduation percentage.

OVR = OVERALL FOOTBALL GRADUATION PERCENTAGE
B = BLACK ATHLETE GRADUATION PERCENTAGE
W = WHITE ATHLETE GRADUATION PERCENTAGE

ARIZONA: 41 OVR, 29 B, 50 W
- 29% of the black players on this team graduate. And there are honestly people who advocate that Mike Stoops deserves a contract extension.

I realize that the coaches cannot hold the players' hands 24 hours a day, but this is a disgrace. I hope there are people out there who take this as seriously as I do. These kids are being hand-delivered an opportunity to get a college education and a college degree and they are not, in the vast majority of cases, being pushed hard enough to achieve that goal. It is the job of these college coaching staffs to hammer home how important that education really is. What perentage of college athletes go on to make a living as a professional athlete in their sport? 5%? Universities are not being held accountable, especially on the student level or the coach level.

The universities that are on this list, below a 75% overall graduation rate, need to be held accountable for their complete failure. Every school listed above could conceivably get over the 75% mark. They have failed the students dramatically and it is a disgrace. There needs to be a set of penalties instituted for college football programs who cannot graduate 75% of their students.

What an embarassment.
