Obama v. BCS

Post by frostlion »

I know this might be best on the Politics board, but I figured it would get more of a discussion here, but it looks like Obama is going to have the Justice Department "review" the legality of the Bowl Championship Series.

I'm not a fan of the BCS, and think there are better ways to crown a national champion, but I guess my choice is to have college football get a playoff on its own and not because Washington forces them.

If no one forces them, then they will not change. There is too much money wrapped up in the whole thing. That is why the BCS conferences want it to stay the way it is. That is why the BCS and the tv networks want it to stay the way it is. However, it makes the system unfair to the smaller market schools. If there was a playoff this year and Boise beat Texas and played Alabama for the title, would the ratings have been as high? Probably not.

Isn't government supposed to represent the people in situations like this? I know it is a sports issue, but it is also an access to and distribution of a large amount of money issue and that is something the government can and probably should get involved in.

The government will just make the situation worse and you can take that to the bank. At least take it to a bank which isn't own by the government.
Why?
