More Panther commits
Good week for Pitt recruiting.
Started off getting Quinton Alston a LB from Jersey with 20+ offers. undersized but should be able to put on some weight. I like what i hear about him 6-1 218 with 4.6 speed.
Earlier in the week, Pitt secured a commit from Eastern Pa Linebacker Ben Kline. Had some offers from BC, UConn,Illinois, Michigan, Maryland among others. 3 star recruit on Rivals and Scout. Looks like a good one. 6''2 220.
Today they got a WR from Ohio, Justin Olack rated a 2 star on scout and 3 star on Rivals. Had some MAC and a couple Big Ten offers. Good size 6-3 195. Runs a 4.5. Never a bad thing getting a Wideout with size.
Best recruit to hop on board so far....Bill Benton of New Jersey Rivals lists him as an Athlete. 5-9 191 pounds. Member of the Rivals 250(#240) and a 4 star recruit by both recruiting services. Has offers from a ton of schools including Florida,PSU,WVU, Wisconsin, USF, Rutgers,Oregon, Nebraska, Georgia Tech among a number of others. Huge Pickup.
Brings our total to 7 for the class of 2011.
3 from NJ 2 from PA 1 from Ohio and Maryland.

Re: More Panther commits
Wanny is on a tear lately. Belton has a bunch of very nice offers, I'm surprised he committed so quickly. Good pick up.

I think Belton is big time, hopefully can make an impact somewhere.
We're lacking in Defensive Backs, I hope we can start getting some Corners. Other then that Wanny has loaded up nicely all across the board...QB's RB's WR's TE's Both Line's are always an ongoing process and He's made Linebacker a priority this spring. The man can recruit. I'll give him that.

Re: More Panther commits
Belton is yet another example this year of PSU showing up at the port too late when the ship has already sailed. It is very frustrating. And you know who's fault it is? Joe's, who went on vacation and would not allow the assistants to offer written scholarships until he returned and gave the 'ok' to each one of them. They have now missed the boat on an increasing number of great prospects. But hey, we took the lowest hanging fruit available and offered him a scholarship. As long as we steal kids from Bucknell, Joe is happy.

Is it me, but is the talent level at State Penn going down? Not a jab or anything but going through their roster in the preview magazines, seems like they don't have the some quality they did 3-4 years ago.

I felt that last years class was fairly talented.

Re: More Panther commits
They have the best WR depth they have ever had under Joe, they have 3 underclassmen QBs who were all 4-5 star players, they have amazing RB depth right now, a ton of underclassmen linemen, a ton of underclassmen potential at LB, the DLine could be the best in the conference, and they have 2 CBs who can actually tackle.
I would say that right now they have a tremendous amount of underclassmen who are going to play quite a lot this season and they are all very, very good prospects.
The problem is that they do not take the same recruiting approach in years like this one, as they normally do. It is the coaching staffs fault that they have a class every few years w/ a handful of schollies available. For whatever reason, Joe is very cautious when he has limited offers. They end up losing a lot of wars because they wait so dang long to offer kids. We have already lost a bunch of prospects b/c we jumped in too late.
Trust me, it is not easy being a Penn State fan sometimes.

Re: More Panther commits
Wait, TAE, you have it all wrong: The real reason is that none of the guys who spurn PSU display enough "academic prowess" to go to PSU! After all, Wedderburn and Jerevicious were Rhodes Scholars, right?

When will WPIAL stop living in 1995? Do you still jog listening to a walkman?
