Big East is reportedly going after Memphis and UCF. I like the moves, but it has its positives and negatives.

Positives.
You get Memphis who is a top 10 Basketball power, not that the Best Basketball conference needs any more firepower....Doesn't hurt to add them.

You add UCF, not noted for anything in particular...They play in the right State for success. By going to a BCS league It will only bolster football recruiting.

USF gets a partner and Florida.

Big East adds Orlando and Memphis markets. UCF is the 3rd biggest school in America. Two good markets to have and lots more fans watching Big East athletics.

Louisville, Cincinnati, and USF have all reaped the benefits of playing in a BCS league. Louisville has one BCS appearance and Cincy has two. That success surely would not have come in C-USA. I think UCF and Memphis would both benefit from playing in this league football wise.

Negatives would be.

18 Basketball schools. Way too many. The Bball schedule and conference tournament are already crowded as it is. A split with non Football schools is starting to become more and more likely. It would be a shame to lose the Georgetown and Villanova rivalries.

Memphis and UCF aren't exactly top notch academic universities. But as we all know its about athletics so its really not a problem.




Nothing wrong with adding these teams, It may take a few years for these teams to get rolling but once they do it can only strengthen the league. The Big East is fine as it is....I see 3 10 win teams(Pitt,WVU,and Cincy) and 5-6 quality teams in the 2010 edition of the Big East. We survived expansion, and we're only going to be stronger.

UCF makes sense, but I really would have rather seen So Miss and ECU.

ECU is a sleeping giant, maybe with the split between football and non football the Big East will scoop up both.


UCF is a huge school, gives more influence in Florida, gives USF a rival and they just built a new stadium 2-3 years ago.

But ECU opens up more recruiting in the Carolinas. At some point I'd like to get them.

If the Big East pulls this off, they are hands down the best Conference in Football. I mean Memphis AND UCF. I mean I could see getting one, but both? WOW!!!!

Why stop at 2 tho? I'd Pigtail it with Slippery Rock, Mount Union, Shippensburg, and IUP!!!

That would be quite the Hunting trip!

I thik it has to do with the 10 million dollars that FEDEX offered if bcs conference accepted them 4 Memphis. Don't know how many years that they ill do that but isn't that why they dropped the bowl game sponsorship

CBS had some stuff on it, could be announced sometime this month

For a team with 5 out of conference games per year playing in a conference where your "tough" games are against Cincinatti, UCONN, and South Florida this is not exacty a who's who of Out of conference opponents Pitt has played the past 8 years.

Soo pretty much you bank on the Big Ten being a rock solid league. Michigan is a joke recently. Wisconsin is up and down as with Iowa, everyone else is good once every 5 years. Look your schedule's a joke. Johnstown Tribune had an article once dubbed "Cup Cake U" and for good reason
